Popp, Bang, Boom. If he has promised to NEVER coach this team, I am pleased. I suspect he can hit the ground running. It would have taken one of those NFL guys a couple of years, and the Argos don't have the time to fritter away like that. Maybe he can deliver Trestman?
Naylor has been tweeting this tonight as well.
Doesn't seem official yet. Perhaps the thread title can be ammended with a '?' at the end for now.
And Copeland is in Arizona. I'm not sure it's a lock yet.
I like it!! Can Trestman be far behind

Have to believe Jim Popp is here to talk about the Argo GM vacancy ... that's what I'm hearing but apparently no deal done. #Argos

Am told that ex-Montreal Alouette GM Jim Popp is sitting down low at the Leafs game tonight. He lives in North Carolina ... why is he here?

Yes it's Bubba from Long Island, our next GM sitting with Mr. Tanebaum. No beers in hand. What!?!?!
GOB recycling at it's finest. Total joke if it turns out - sorry bout that but Poop was a clueless clown in his last few Als' seasons. Is he going to sign a bunch of ex-NFL has beens or all-American heroes for the Argos? - fits a time honored Argo tradition i guess. Desperation GOB time.
Tanebaum gets tired of Copeland tooting around North America and brings in a GM himself. I don't think Popp was the first choice but something had to be done. Could be worse I guess. Just don't let him try to Coach. lol<iframe id="rufous-sandbox" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="true" style="position: absolute; visibility: hidden; display: none; width: 0px; height: 0px; padding: 0px; border: none;" title="Twitter analytics iframe"></iframe>
Naylor seems pretty adament that this is not just a chance encounter, and that Popp should be the next.GM, bringing with him Trestman as Head Coach. I'm not really crazy about either move, especially Trestman as Head Coach, as I was hoping to never again see the Trestman/Milanovich offence ever again here in Toronto.
I am always surprised how critical people are of Popp's last few years. Do you not think this had a lot to do with the ownership group getting in his way. I understood some of the poor coaching decisions were pushed upon Popp by ownership... not his choice. Anyhow, I don't see how this could be bad. Our ownership group has deeper pockets and could lead to some legit splashy signings in the future. The structure should have Copeland running the business end of things if he is at all capable and a guy like Popp dealing with all football decisions. I think this would work out well. Rumour is Trestman is checking out who has interest in being part of a coaching staff in Toronto.... hopefully all this stuff gets resolved soon and we can put a real team together for this season.
The inability to properly replace Anthony Calvillo is what haunts Popp's last couple of years in Montreal. He was still finding decent talent on the defensive side of the ball, and likely overcompensated for the inexperience at QB by signing veteran receivers. Yes, I do not want him anywhere near the sideline as head coach.
Agreed Popp would not be my first choice, but something has to be done and not today but yesterday.
If he can bring in Trestman that would be awesome.
