Kind of strange but it could work.
My father looked at me and asked why you'd want the guy's former backup as his QB coach. You'd think it'd make Ricky Ray a little more comfortable on the sidelines giving him someone that he was familiar with in Edmonton. I agree with argolio that you have to ensure that he'd be useful in helping to develop the younger QB's on the roster.
