Hard to compare teams from different eras but until the Argonauts win back to back Grey Cups there is no comparison IMO.Quote:

Yeah, our defensive numbers have not been great. But it feels to me as if they're playing better than the stats show. Could be simply because we're winning off our offensive prowess.
But the secondary definitely has to be better in the second half of the season, if they want to keep atop the league standings.

I don't think it's the secondary vs the system. The Argos give up the short stuff and hope to not allow TD's. Great in theory, but IMO it means they spend too much time on the field. Mace is a student of Rich Stubler, and that was his philosophy. At least he doesn't play that confusing match coverage in the secondary. A few more 2 and outs or just 1 first down allowed would be nice. Like last year, I expect them to get better as the season goes on,Quote:

Hard to compare different eras, and have to factor in quality of opposition faced. I don't see this offence with the same quality of weapons of some of those other great Argo teams, but Kelly is sure making it work, and kudos to Ryan D on his game plans and play-calling.
Going to be very interesting to see how this season unfolds. The back to back against the Als - only decent competition in the East it seems - should tell the tale going forward.

In a word, no. No matter how good he is, you need to be able to surround him with a good team. 600 is stretching it. My guess is 550k which would make him the highest paid player in the league. IMO, the only way Rourke advances there is if starter Lawrence goes down and then Bethard comes in and bombs and then they turn to Nathan. A healthy Lawrence means Rourke stays at #3. He may have to be patient and wait some for an NFL shot - maybe with another team. And why he only got signed by a team in need for a #3, instead of a team that had open competition need for #2 or even #1 is a bit baffling to me? - they prefer their vets or top draft pick QBs from powerhouse Div I programs. Beathard does’t have to be #2 to mentor Lawrence. Though he may officially be #2 on that depth chart, I think they would turn to the more productive guy if an emergency were to pop up. As for Rourke’s decision to sign with the Jags, I think a lot had to do with their head coach. Probably feels he will develop better under a guy that’s a proven offensive coach. If he went to a team with bigger needs at QB and was in a bad situation and maybe struggled, his chance of sticking down there may have been hurt, and then who knows if he ever would get another chance? He’s young, so I think he made the right choice
This will all be moot if Lawrence stays healthy, but my bet is that if he goes down, Beathard gets first dibs but will be on a short leash. I agree he made a smart, strategic choice to learn under Pederson and apprentice under one of the NFL's up-and-comers. Even if he doesn't take a snap this year, he will be learning and turning himself into a more valuable commodity for 2024 and beyond.Quote:

You are probably right, and I wish him all the best. And let's face it, even if he never sees the field, the financial rewards of being in the NFL can't be beat. But going back to the original thread topic for a minute... QB's who have played in both leagues, and in particular Warren Moon, Doug Flutie and Jeff Garcia, have all commented about how much fun it was playing the CFL game. So while there is no disagreement that if given the chance Chad Kelly will leave to chase his dreams in the U.S., but I just wonder if at the end of it all, whether he would be happier. As Zach Collaros said in an interview in the Winnipeg Sun, you only have so many chances to play and so you treasure every one of them. Kelly might end up making more money in the NFL, but he would arguably build a bigger legacy as an athlete if he stays here.Quote:
