You obviously haven't been watching the games.
He consistently underthrows his receivers on long passes. If you want to see a strong arm, see Franklin throw deep.

He leads the league in touchdown passes because they can’t run the ball at all. How many rushing touchdowns do they have? I think the answer is two, and they both came against Ottawa.
With James Franklin starting now and the Argos out of the playoffs, even though they could still make it if they ran the table and Montreal loss all their remaining games, I would trade McLeod BT to Winnipeg if they were interested. Nichols is done for the year which leaves them mighty thin in experienced QB's.
MBT is a free agent I understand and could re-sign here in February if both sides agree. Why not reward him by giving him a chance to win a Grey Cup and pocket some playoff money for what he's gone through this year. The cost for Winnipeg would probably be a later round pick at this stage of the season and the fact MBT will be a free agent.
Then these last six games could be used to get Prukop and O'Conner some playing time and maybe get Zach into a game. Franklin would still be the starter of course but these young guys have to play some to improve, especially O'Conner.
I still don't get why people are looking at Montreal as the team to catch. Fact is, they have a better chance at catching Edmonton who is tied with Montreal in points, has played 1 more game than Montreal, and must finish clearly ahead of the 3rd place team in the east to get a crossover. Also, Edmonton has lost 4 straight, so it's not out of the question they go 2-3 to finish. Argos would still have to run the table in that scenario.

I would have no issues trading MBT to the Bombers at this point if you can get something decent in return. Him being a free agent, you can always bring him back next year. But there is no way I am playing O-Connor this season and to me, Prukop from training camp to his limited time in the Edmonton road game hasn't shown anything to warrant it. Also, until the playoffs are mathematically out of the question, I'm playing the QB that gives them the best chance to win no matter what.
update: Trevor Harris on the 6 game IR.

I am predicting now that if the Argos run the table, they will be in the playoffs. I know, big if, but to me the tough game is tomorrow night. Win that game, and I think they can accomplish it.
If the o-line keeps playing like it did last week, there is no way I'd play O'Connor even if/when we are officially eliminated from contention. No sense setting back his development by putting him under siege.
With Harris out the rest of the regular season sure gives the Argos a window of opportunity. So Edmonton will be in the market for a QB as well. Deadline of October 9th gives Popp two more games to see where we are. Can't see him dealing with Edmonton though unless the Argos are eliminated. You're right tomorrow night is a big game. No more egg laying allowed.
Winnipeg is now looking for a quarterback.
No surprise in regards to his comments, Trestman never seemed to like him and things only spiralled down from there last season.
Franklin is equally to blame here as well as he simply didn’t play very well when he had the opportunity.
Personally I think he still has all of the skills to be an effective CFL QB and it wouldn’t shock me to see him have success elsewhere, put up or shut time in Saskatchewan.
His comments about problems caused by trying to adapt to what others wanted him to be don't make him appear very coachable. I suppose he might have meant coaches were trying to change his personality rather than the way he played, but we'll probably never know. He did come under criticism while here for being too happy go lucky, with the most infamous example being his all-smiles halftime interview when we were being utterly destroyed in Vancouver.
He was always good in games he wasn’t the starter. He may just be a good career back-up
Considering Franklin's resume, expectations, and getting severely outplayed by a no-name guy, he's gotta be one of the most disappointing starting QBs in Argo history.
