Well Ford did prioritize the announcement of a cell phone ban in classrooms over tailgating, so I'm not sure what you mean.

You weren't laughed at by anyone on this particular forum, from what I can see. A couple of posters took issue with your suggestion that if elected, Ford would be likely (or rather more likely than Wynne) to legalize tailgating, but those posts were respectful.
I'm happy to hear this. But I'm also worried that 10 years from now, all the vast parking lots around Exhibition Place will be covered by something else and unavailable for tailgating. Let's enjoy this to the max while we can.
Everyone is entitled to their democratic differences, it is our constitutional right, and should be encouraged by all. Perhaps we should keep this to 'how' this political decision effects the Argonauts directly -- or else I foresee this denigrating into a discussion of political preferences and mud slinging.
Just my 2 cents.
I look at this as a positive for the Argonauts and their game day experience. I'll leave it there.
There's no real downside to this that I can see, since there is nothing forcing anyone to participate in tailgates. I suppose the Argos might scrap the Shipyard, but that would not be the end of the world by any means.
I have no issue with tailgating and have always said that although I don't partake, I'm happy for those that do. Just because I don't believe that this is a major issue, let alone trumpeting a complete moron as a hero over it, how does that make me a hypocrite? People tailgate in Hamilton and Ottawa (to the best of my knowledge, they are both in Ontario) and from what I understand, the fan driven tailgates last year became quite successful. I don't recall hearing about police shut downs last year over the tailgates. If you really think this will double the size of Argos crowds over time, more power to you.
I agree. And IMHO, tailgating will not make a significant difference to the Argos bottom line.
To me Ontario will always be the place where people dressed in lab coats, filled a prescription-like order for alcohol in a back room. Delivered your order in a paper bag so that alcohol was visible.
Tailgating was very important to the Argos and as I understand it invested $700,000 over two years until it became untenable. The Argos could support tailgating with Alumni meet and greets. Can only be good news.
Agree, enough said on this topic.
Totally agree. Ask them, and the Police will tell you, they have better things to do. Guns &Gangs is underfunded. They hardly have time for basic Road Safety anymore. Leave the good people alone and stop ruling by the lowest common denominator. Treat people as adults. Ontario was basically founded by the churches; not that there's anything wrong with that, but we've kinda of moved past that cos now it's everyones culture and everyones churches (or not). And it moved past that 50 years ago! Hello
I don't drink or smoke weed. I don't have an issue with either one. I don't want to get political any more than I already did on here (that was my bad). I'm not going to celebrate Trudeau's decision to do that. Again, I just don't think tail gates are going to make or break the Argos bottom line the way some on here do.
I urge people to go to a concert in Toronto, and then go to a concert in the States. Or go to a sporting event like Nascar, College Ball or even a Baseball game. The tone carries a world of difference, and if you want to 'be' different you have to offer something more enjoyable. Disposable income is the issue for many Canadians, especially in an expensive city like Toronto. We are also competing against an aging Argo fanbase and the convenience of our own big screens and basements. Gouging should not be tolerated in concessions. Many studies are proving that more money will be made by offering value, value, value.
When i grew up you wanted out of the house when you became an adult 18yrs old, the teenagers, and young adults these days tend to live at home far longer = more disposable income, so maybe the potential "party atmosphere" of a tailgate might attract some of these young folks. That said, the actual game is what needs to hook them to become a real fan of the Argo's.
If the tailgate gets 10% to become REAL fans that's still better than none
I am of two minds when it comes to this "sanctioned" tailgating.
Tailgating in Toronto has always been a bit of a challenge. Prior to about a decade ago, there were lots situated east of SkyDome towards the Air Canada Centre. Once they started building up that area, those lots obviously disappeared and tailgating in Toronto became somewhat of a nomadic affair. That made it difficult to build up any sort of momentum (I can't think of a better word). Those tailgates were hardly sanctioned, and I do not recall there being any major incidence at those.
Hamilton has always had tailgates at Scott Park and now the old Dominion Glass lot. The team and city has always looked the other way and I have never heard of any major incidents there either.
After the team tailgate disappeared after 2017, fans started to tailgate in the lot south of BMO Field with no incidence. I cannot quantify this number, but I know there are some who were reluctant to tailgate there because they feared repercussions from the man. This sanctioning should provide those people with the reassurance that they need such that the numbers at the Argos tailgate can increase.
But, with additional numbers come the caveats, the potential for incidents increases, and the government can put whatever restrictions they want. There are, of course, measures the government must take here I suppose, and perhaps the impact may be felt in Hamilton rather than Toronto, but I'd hope that people in Toronto would take the position that just because Bills Mafia does it doesn't mean we have to as well.
CBC Ontario Today had an interesting phone-in discussion about this today.

(I am of course only posting this link because they included a brief clip at the start of Argonotes singing "Go Argos Go" :-) )
Just got back this evening from overseas hiking holiday--so catching up on football activities. See Ford has provided a pending "bread and circus" piece of legislation. A lot of questions though. The Sun article appears to imply teams will have to approve. Does that mean applying for a permit and if so what accountability/liability might the organization have to assume?
Guess we will have to wait until we see the details in the legislation.
