On Twitter, another person pointed out that the Week 1 ratings were significantly lower than Week 1 for the AAF, XFL2020, USFL, and XFL2022. Also, keep in mind that Week 1 ratings tend to be the high-water mark and it declines from there.
As AV points out, Mitchell is all sunshine and roses about any spring league because it provides him with work.
I have to confess, my own interest in the UFL is way lower than it was in either the XFL or the USFL the past few years. Obviously the MBT factor had a major influence last season, but even before that I was always curious to see what sort of TV product these two leagues would put on. I PVRd and watched (much of) the first telecast each time. This year I recorded the opening game but after dabbling with the intro for about a minute, I deleted the recording.
I watched a bit of one of the Sunday games, and the overkill with the VP of officiating Dean Blandino really made it difficult to keep watching. Unlike many CFL fans, I do believe the talent is comparable, but these spring leagues just seem to rush everything. Short training camp, and no pre-season games results in pretty bad offence to start every season they have.
Week 2 of the Inaugural UFL season continues this weekend with 4 games scheduled.
Everyone in attendance will be given pitchforks this weekend. Thanks for coming to the spring league, here's a gift to help with your spring cleanup. There's no way that could go south in a hurry.
The San Antonio Brahma Bulls have announced that the team has placed PK Donald De La Haye on IR. Presumably he was hurt after whiffing on a tackle attempt vs the Memphis Showboats during Saturdays thrilling come from behind win.
Week 3 of the UFL resumed play this afternoon with 4 games on tap this weekend.
The UFL concluded week 3 of action this afternoon. A game of interest for Argo fans took place in Detroit Michigan. Argo Neg List QB Nolan Henderson, who is #2 on the Houston (Pitsburgh really) depth chart saw action in relief and completed 3-4 passes for 12 yards as his team dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Attendance in the UFL this weekend was about 40k in total.
3 Down Nation staff reports that former CFL WR Stephen Dunbar has been waived by the Houston Rough Necks (Pittsburgh Maulers really) after recording 1 reception for 19 yards while appearing in just 1 game. Houston (0-3) host Arlington and QB Luis Perez in week 4 in a battle of winless teams.
Also waived yesterday by the Memphis Showboats were former Argos OT Terry Poole and RB Trey Williams.
Exactly what AAF, XFL, and USFL fans have been saying for the past 5 years.
Here are the TV ratings for Week 3, which I suspect are nowhere near what is needed for this league to survive long-term: https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profoo...bag-for-week-3
