Mo Price Traded

It wasn't a secret that the Redblacks were going to upgrade the receiver position this off-season. Most expected it to start in free agency but it seems like they got a jump start on it today.

Calgary has depth at receiver so it makes sense from their end. The Stamps already re-signed Charbonneau and this trade likely means they will lock up Sinopoli before free agency beings.

Ottawa gets a proven player and while he didn't come cheap it was a move I think most Redblacks fans would approve.

BLM threw to 19 different receivers last year so I don't think the Stumps will lose much. They will gain cap space to boot.

Simmons was an Argo late in the 2011 season and early in 2012. He made a big interception or fumble recovery in the 2012 home opener but was released soon after. Interesting that he fetched that much for Ottawa but he had a terrific season for them in 2014.

It's a bit puzzling that Ottawa would want to give up Simmons when you have a guy like SJ Green hitting the market here in a few weeks. But that's Desjardins I guess.

Ottawa is in need of more than just SJ Green though.

No guarantee they would win a bidding war for Green, but by aquiring a guy already under contract, they have definitely strengthened their team. Simmons had a great year, but defence wasn't Ottawa's problem last year.

I bet it's easier for Ottawa to replace Simmons than it is to find or sign a proven receiver in free agency.

Although Ottawa had a couple of decent receivers in Marcus Henry and Wallace Miles, Price gives them what they sorely lacked - speed to burn. His speed should also help open up the field for other receivers, especially if they can add another speedster.
