Which would be of no issue to the 67's as presumably they could just play at the Corel Centre in the interim, but how would it impact the capacity that the Redblacks can play to?
They propose to build a new arena to the East of the stadium. 67s could play elsewhere of course. Not sure if the RedBlacks are supposed to play in front of the construction with just the Southside seats available or how long the stadium re-do is supposed to take?
The issue of wether the current roof over the North side could be retained or rebuilt is another question.
There is also some proposed new housing/apartments - gonna be for the rich though, I would think; they could have designated this for low income housing to make a gesture of good will and that might still be an issue for the City ?
All sorts of whiny groups of Glebe-ites and other concerned citizens are getting to speak and voice protests or concerns; hearing this process could go on longer than expected till Council votes.
I get not wanting to spend tax dollars on a project deemed unworthy or too expensive - dollars could be spent elsewhere; but anybody from Ottawa who thinks the current Lansdowne is not a HUGE improvement over the old, delapidated parking lot needs to give their head a shake. And Ottawa F'd up their O-Train project so bad, there is fear of more bad business deals. Wonder how much the rich guys at OSEG are supposed to pony up here compared to public fund$ ?
There are some recent reports - eg. Ottawa Citizen & CBC - that outline some of the proposal and the process going on. Sorry bout no links.
