Big fan of Star Trek, though I guess my avatar makes it obvious. Though I'm embarrassed to say that I certainly need to brush up on my Klingon. TNG is where I got my start as a child. The original soon followed, then DS9 (which I'm not as familiar with). Never really got into Voyager or Enterprise, though I sometimes watch Voyager in reruns.

DS9 is my favorite of the bunch! It's also one of the more controversial of the series because it went away from Gene Roddenberry's "vision" and contained religious themes as well as a major war. The first few seasons are weak (like TNG), but once the main plot points were introduced it was excellent.

Agreed with DS9. Just glad that JMS tried to sell Babylon 5 to Paramount 89 as that obviously helped get the DS9 project started in a better way than may have been otherwise. (just see Voyager and Enterprise to see what I mean)

I was joking about being trilingual. Only bilingual and the second language is not Klingon. I do know a few words and phrases not enough to get by on Qo'noS. My mom is a Trekkie from the TOS days so that's how I came across it. I can't remember the first episode of Star Trek I saw but I'm assuming it was TOS. As far back as I can remember Sunday mornings consisted of getting ready for church while watching it. Truth is I wasn't a big fan of TOS as a kid but I do remember enjoying the TOS films and TNG. From TNG forward I watched each ST series and film in its original run. When I was about 16 or 17 I watched the entire original series from beginning to end and enjoyed it a lot more than when I was kid. I'm currently re-watching DS9 and I just started the 4th season last night. I have to say it is quickly becoming my favorite series. I love TNG but DS9 took a lot more risks and I think it paid off. I think Ron you are correct that the B5 pitch had influence on DS9. Also argofan87 I think DS9's first two season were stronger than TNG's. They start laying the ground work for everything in the second season which is really cool watching it now knowing what is coming. If I have to rate each series it goes as follows for me:

    DS9
    TNG
    TOS
    ENT
    VOY

Nothing wrong with that, you are entitled to your opinion. As long as you don't start saying that people that enjoy the other series have lost the "ability to think for themselves" you don't cross the line of forcing your opinion on to others.

    Cool

Ok listen here, all of you trembling, tribble-ticklers :

    Ka' Pla means Victory !

    It also means Success !

In the Klingon language, and more importantly, in the Klingon attitude,

the words are synonymous. (They mean the same thing.)

And it doesn't matter how you spell it.

It only matters how you live it !

    Ka 'Pla !

DS9 is my favourite. And I also really like the last one, Enterprise.

They start off a bit lame, but get better as they go on.

If you're going to ignore the spelling and meanings of words in a language (even a fictional one), what's the point? Essentially you are creating your own langue then.

I'm glad I clicked this thread because I got to read quite possibly the most unintentionally hilarious post in the history of internet forums.

In defence of T-Bone, langue, is one French variation, of the French word for language.

I suspect that T-bone is even more brilliant, than he is generally given credit for.

    Cheers !

The first 9 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness here. To quote another famous sci-fi franchise, "I have a bad feeling about this."

They're violating the prime directive just by attempting to save this planet.

I've honestly stopped caring. They're destroying it. Glad I got to meet Bill Shatner at comiccon 2012 in montreal and have my pic taken with him with my 2010 grey cup hoodie.
