105th GREY CUP GAME THREAD! / November 26th / Calgary vs. Toronto

We made it! At this point I'm just hoping for an exciting game. We're the underdog - quite appropriately - but this Argonaut team is good enough to beat anyone if they play smart. Trestman has shown that he can be creative, and I'm hoping to see one or two new twists on offense this weekend.

I agree. I think we are good enough. One observation: Both Hamilton and Saskatchewan were successful against the Argos in limiting Wilder Jr when they assigned a linebacker to spy him, and essentially go where he goes. I hope that Trestman and the coaching staff come up with some wrinkles if Calgary does the same.

Like Wobbler, I'm just hoping for an entertaining game. I think there's a chance that we can win, with Calgary it's either they kick butt or choke. My only real concern is that they choked last year, so the odds that they'll do it again aren't the greatest in our favour.

However, as Lloyd Christmas famously said............

The weather forecast suggests that it will be very cold on Sunday, but not (significantly) snowy.

    Eliminate mistakes & turn-overs = Argos win.

They have a better offence than the Stamps; and the Stamps have a pretty good D, but so do the Argos.

Getting beat on special teams play - getting out-kicked badly, or allowing big returns - is a bit of a concern, IMO.

I'll predict a pretty close game.

    Argos by 6: Argos 25, Stumps 19

Should be fun and you never know, they might be able to pull it off. Argos are wearing blue helmets. I wonder if they are wearing the white jerseys since Stamps wore white last year, does anyone know?

My heart says Argos win but my head says Stampeders win. However, the Argos still have a chance if the offence can move the ball fairly consistently.

I have been thinking about this too. I think that because the game is in the East that the Argos are the home team and most likely will wear the same as last week (all blue).

Stamps are wearing white jerseys, red pants. Presume we will wear the all-blue look again altho I'd still love to see white pants.

I like the classic, Oxford top/white pant look, as well, but I'm also superstitious! Go with the all Oxford this time! It has good vibes attached to it...

Shouldn't be any mistakes in the video booth with Jake in there.

I am usually pessimistic when the Argos have a big game to play...however I am brimming...yes, brimming with confidence that they will defeat Calgary. I want white pants too!!!!

The man who has QBed more Argo Grey Cup wins in the last 60 years than anyone else will also be playing at the Grey Cup. A good omen.

The Flutie Brothers Band, featuring Canadian Football Hall of Fame inductees Doug and Darren Flutie, will perform at the Grey Cup VIP Tailgate Party, presented by Casino Lac-Leamy, on the afternoon of November 26.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Doug Flutie, a three-time Grey Cup champion and three-time Grey Cup MVP. “Playing classic rock with my brother Darren and our friends is a blast and playing at Canada’s biggest party is going to be incredible,” said the 2008 Canadian Football Hall of Fame inductee. “I’ve heard a lot about RNation …. the crazy fans in Ottawa … and we’re going to put on the plaid and give them a great show.”
The Flutie Brothers Band has been playing events and clubs all over North America since the 1990’s. They cover several bands including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick and the Georgia Satellites with Doug on drums, Darren on guitar and a spirited bunch of their buddies rounding out the roster.
“The Flutie Brothers Band is going to rock the house,” said Jim Durrell, Chair of the 105th Grey Cup Festival, presented by Shaw. “And what a great fit for our Festival. Both Doug and Darren are Grey Cup champions. Both are football hall of famers and both are fan favorites across the CFL.”
The VIP Tailgate Party, indoors at the heated Aberdeen Pavilion, is the place to be on Grey Cup Sunday. Doors open at 2:00 PM and the party rocks ‘till 6:00 PM, a half hour before game-time. Attendees MUST have a ticket to the Grey Cup game to attend the VIP Tailgate Party, which will feature three bands over the course of the afternoon: The Hornettes, The Flutie Brothers and Busty and the Bass.

Steve Simmons has a good article on how four Argos who are important in their Grey Cup drive ended up in Toronto after zig zags in their careers: Armanti Edwards, DeVier Posey, James Wilder, and Cody Fajardo.

I like how they tried different combos this year, but those all blues looked great last Sunday. Keep it rolling this Sunday.

I personally don't think they have a bad combination. I have never disliked any Argos unis with the exception of those stupid jerseys they wore in '95 with the huge Jason and shield logo on the front of the jersey and small numbers on the upper left just below the shoulder. Hate those, as I did the 3rd jersey a couple of years ago with the big A logo on the front and again the small numbers.
