Bears fans are asking that very question as we speak.

It takes constant reinforcement, with new players/coaches getting attention (every year, ideally) to maintain a positive perception. Do you base your current opinion of the Arena League on the players that came to the CFL 20 years ago? Heck, most NFL watchers have already forgotten that Browner played in the CFL.

It is worth noting that many of the comments on the CBS site beneath that article disagree with the author.

As you post on this forum , posters down here (south of the border) are commenting on Trestmans haircut. This forum is rich on football knowledge, do not expect CFL perceptions amongst the brainless down here to change.

Trestman has lots of contacts and will likely recommend some fresh candidates to Popp to continue following his system as he did with David Kelly in edmonton. Popp is not the type to hire re-tread players or coaches. He likes to bring in new folk to keep the league fresh. with Thorpe already named as DC the possibility of Jones coming here becomes moot.

Losing Trestman is not a big deal. Popp has reloaded a few times and been quite successful. Losing Popp would be the biggie.

Looks like DCs don't have a lot of success, Richie Hall being another.

Those are the last three who went directly from the CFL to the NFL. Hugh Campbell had a one-year stop in the old USFL between his stints as head coach of the Esks (won five Grey Cups in a row) and the Houston Oilers where he started in 1984.

which goes to show that winning 5 in a row is not a gage of having success in the nfl.

The reaction on the Vikings board I post at is actually pretty guarded. I suppose they know better then to pick on the CFL because of Bud Grant.

Forgot about Frank Kush. Great coach, but one of those Woody Hayes-types who was wrapped a bit too tight which got the best of him eventually.

He's a reporter for Chicago Tribune.

: One source told me Argonauts head coach Scott Milanovich, former Maryland QB, could possibly join Bears staff.

I doubt that Milanovich has an out in his Argo contract to become a position coach in the NFL but I could be wrong.

Campbell walked into a hornet's nest in Houston though. He didn't exactly have a model GM or owner to work for IIRC.

Even if there is no such clause, do you think the Argos would stand in his way if he really wanted to go?

Probably not. Barker said on tsn.ca tonight that Milanovich has expressed no interest to him in pursuing other job opportunities.
