a veteran FA receiver with consistent production... sounds like someone Barker would try to bring to TC, no?

CALGARY -- The Calgary Stampeders announced Wednesday the release of veteran receiver Romby Bryant.
“By releasing Romby now instead of waiting until Feb. 15 when he was eligible to become a free agent, we wanted to give him more time to explore opportunities with other teams,” said Hufnagel. “Romby has been a great player and a great person and I thank him for everything he has done for the football club.”

Bryant played 60 regular-season games for the Stampeders and had 210 catches for 3,025 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also made seven playoff appearances for Calgary.

Not a big fan. He is fast but IMO very soft in tight coverage.

two things...

i) didn't Barker bring Romby to Calgary when he was head of personnel there?

ii) doesn't Barker have a penchant for this sort of move? (ie: Rambo, Mann, Barnes...)

Good receiver but I don't think he fits with what we have. If Rambo is released then maybe but I don't see it happening.

Bryant is more of a speedster wide-out type; has big play potential, is experienced, and not like he's an over the hill aging vet with injury history.

I think he could possibly be a fit at WR for the Argos; but the Argos have Inman and probably plan to pencil in a NI at the lesser used wide-side WR position? - but that should not be set in stone; Inman and Bryant as the 2 WRs for an excellent deep ball thrower like Ray to go to might be pretty nice, but Feoli-Gudino should get a real look at WR and Watt is still there; Durie could be the only NI starting receiver in the 5 pack perhaps; but they shouldn't rule out another NI getting to compete as a slotback - not overly sold on Mann or Barnes but they have experience too; Bradwell deserves a look as an every down slotback IMO, and there are also maybe some decent receivers to be had in the draft (Dobko from the Dinos looks like a sure-handed slotback).

LOTS of real honest TC competition is key - as it always should be. I'd sign Bryant for a TC try-out with no hesitation, but not to a rich CFL receiver contract by any means.
