    Josh Portis......We Hardly Knew Ya....

    Signed with Seattle today.

If you go to the Argos transactions page you will see that they released him on April 2. Looks like one of those situations where he had an arrangement with the Argos about going back to Seattle if the opportunity presented itself, and it did. Darn that Matt Flynn for getting traded to the Raiders.....

So.....who will be the 4th arm that they bring in for training camp, and to learn to become the 3rd string QB when Ottawa plucks a QB off of the roster in 2014?

Not sure it's a forgone conclusion Ottawa will pick one of ours. Likely will be Kevin Glenn and either Porter or one of the Winnipeg guys.

They could also end up picking up the QB in Edmonton - Reilly or Nichols - who doesn't win the starting job there. They will have some good options at QB IMO.
Cameron Dukes + Dan Adeboboye + Kevin Mital + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force

True, Ottawa might not pluck a QB off of the Argos roster, but I'd bet that some of the Argos' young arms will be more appealing than a Kevin Glenn......

Reilly/Nichols will be a good choice for Ottawa too.

I wonder how many "pick Player X, leave Player Y, and we will give you Player Z" deals there will be for Ottawa?

Another reason I'm hoping Ricky Ray doesn't get hurt this season: so that Ottawa doesn't find out how good Zach Collaros really is.

Exactly! I watched him with the BearCats, he's good when he's on a roll. He stepped in for Pike when he was injured. He took them to 9-0 at that point. I think they finished the season 12-0 or 12-1. lost their bowl game though to Florida if I'm right.

I think Ottawa will have to be sure what they are getting if they pick one of the back up QB's available, because of the expansion rule that says any team losing a QB can protect two extra Canadians.
Myself I don't like that rule. Maybe a team should be able to protect more imports but not limit Ottawa on Canadians available. So I would think they will take a hard look at FA QB's, like McPherson. The Argo backups should be FA's going into next year providing they don't resign.

It's going to be an interesting year for sure in that sense. Will teams want to show what they have as backups? Pretty sure the protection list will change throughout the season as well.

If the Argos really like Collaros and don't want to lose him, I'm sure they will swing a deal so Ottawa doesn't take him...perhaps a neg list player or middle round draft pick, or both.

Kevin Glenn just had a hell of a year and will have nearly a decade of CFL experience when Ottawa picks. Our backups and Reilly/Nichols haven't played more than 6 games in their entire careers. For an expansion franchise, Glenn will be pretty appealing.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) -- The Seattle Seahawks have waived backup quarterback Josh Portis a day after news surfaced of his arrest for driving under the influence earlier this month.
The Seahawks announced the decision to cut Portis Tuesday morning. Portis was on the field and an active participant during the Seahawks' first OTA workout Monday.
Portis was arrested on investigation of driving under the influence May 5 and faces a court arraignment next week. Portis was pulled over for driving 80 mph in a 60 mph zone on Interstate 90. The arresting officer wrote Portis performed poorly in field sobriety tests and later registered .092 and .078 in breath tests. The legal limit in Washington state is .08.
Portis was in his second stint with the Seahawks. He was re-signed by Seattle in early April after they traded Matt Flynn to Oakland.

We’ll see – I still think Trevor Harris is the ‘next one’ even though I know a number of you on this board are high on Collaros. I guess it will play out over this year if Ricky ever goes down.

11 days until training camp and speculation can run wild….

So, he automatically jumped to being one of the 120 top QB's in North America. Because Brunt has said many times that the NFL has the top 120 QB,s, then after that are the CFL starters.
