My first reaction to this name a few months back was fairly neutral but I have to say that the name has since grown on me. Is it any worse than the 67's?

It's just two colours, must have taken a marketing genius to come with this name including the "R" logo.

Yes, I think that it is. Although I am no fan of Ottawa's name, it references an important historical event and there is precedent for doing so (e.g. the 49ers) in a sports context.

"RedBlacks" is devoid of any meaningful historical context, means nothing in English, and is insultingly descriptive. If they were truly going for a minimalist abstraction (which I seriously doubt) I might respect it, but I still wouldn't like it.

Red and Black are the traditional colours of Ottawa's pro football and sports teams so there is historical relevance in that way.

Same here. I would have preferred Ottawa Rough Riders but that's not going to happen, so I hope to see a red "R" on the black helmet.

The "R" on the helmet will be very nice. While I don't expect them to make the uniform exactly like the old one, I'd like it to be a modern rendition of said apparel. I don't like the name either, but it does translate well into French and it would do for the RedBlacks to target Gatineau as a market for potential fans.

Best comment of the thread. That name would give me nightmares of a team of announcer clones. On second thought, it might be appropriate for the first year as an 0-18 expansion team (actually I expect them to win a few games).
