    the Depth Chart thread

was wondering if anyone wanted to take a stab at it (before the first rounds of cuts get made)?

the offence looks fairly set (maybe a surprise or two at receiver) but the defence could have several new starters and key backups...

who's going to start us off?

Here's a very conservative projection of the starters (including the presupposition that Watkins doesn't return):

    Washington-Reinders-Keeping-Eppele-Van Zeyl

    Inman-Barnes-Owens-Watt

    Kackert-Durie

    Ray

    Lee-Mitchell-Huntley-Geathers

    Isaac-McCune-Ball

    Horne-Vinson-Black-Lawrence-Carter

I'll take a stab at the starters (mostly based on what I saw in practice on Sunday)

    O-line
    Washington-Eppelle-Keeping-Parenteau-Van Zeyl

    RB
    Kackert

    RB/SB
    Durie

    SB
    Owens-Inman

    WR
Watt-Reggie Williams (call this a hunch)

    QB
    Ray

    Defence
    D-Line
    Lee-Mitchell-Huntly-Foster

    LB
    Ball-McCune-Issaac

    DB
Horne-Carter-Black-Vinson-Watkins (still optimistic he'll be back)
It's us vs the rest of the country

Isn't Foster a DT too ? - or were one of those 3 guys (including Mitchell & Huntley (did play DE in the NFL i believe)) lining up at DE ?

Heard another at camp poster here say he saw a starting 5 pack of Owens, Barnes, Durie, Inman & Bryant; did you see Inman lining-up at slotback? I know you are a Watt fan but I'll bet on 4 starting imports in the 5 pack to begin the season; and if Williams is starting, do you think Bryant, Barnes, Iglesias and Chiles could all get cut?
The Argos have no "ratio problem" to play a NI at WR if it's 4 O-Linemen + Durie (= 5 on offence) and then 2 NIs on D (Lee or Reid + Black).

I think that we will see 8 non-import starters as both Barker and Milanovich remain bullish about Watt. Reid and Yurichuk, I believe, will both see significant snaps on defence and perhaps Laing as well. I don't see a lack of quality Canadians as being a problem that the Argos have.

The whole "starter" thing is very debatable/questionable, and especially with a team that likes to sub guys in and out in different packages. We shall see Ravi. Yurichuck is going to replace McCune lots at MLB ? - i'll believe that when i see it; Reid and Lee subbed in and out to have one of 2 NIs on the field on D I could see; I'll still bet it will be mostly 4 imports in the receiving corps (with Durie the regular NI) - a lot of import talent at receiver - Owens and Inman may be locks, but Barnes and Bryant are veteran CFL guys and the likes of Iglesias, Chiles and Reggie Williams (lots of NFL experience and playing time/stats - I believe Barker is in love with those types - Foster added too and ready to play?) = I don't believe they are going to sit one of those guys in favor of Watt unless they are "ratio problem" forced too; and CFL GMs or coaches talking up a player that they "really like" - yeah sure - you take that stuff as gospel though?

i've heard from 3 different folks that i trust that Jason Barnes has had a strong camp and made all of his catches. i hope he (belatedly) lives up to the expectations we had for him a year ago.

The thing with Watt is that Barker and Milanovich have been talking him up for the last two years. I do believe that they think quite highly of him.

They're listing Foster as a DE on the roster, and I think he will likely play both inside and out, depending on the rotaion (similar to what Flemons used to do).

Hard to say who was getting first team reps, as they really were mixing up the receiving combinations a lot. Barnes was getting good reps at slot (seemed to wind himself diving for a pass and I believe landing on the ball), but Inman took a lot of reps there as well. I really like what I saw of Williams at practice. Big target, ran good routes and has good hands. He will be hard for a lot of corners to handle 1 on 1.Watt was also getting good reps. I think you will see him and Bradwell share that spot again.

May just have been a bad day, but Feoli Gudino struggled. Dropped a couple of balls, and had a hard time shaking the db's jam on the 1 on 1's. Also got chewed out for a bad route. Having said that, there were a couple of plays in scrimmage, where he caught balls in the flat, and he looked more explosive than last years camp turning up the fiels.

Good question. Sunday at midnight again??

For what it's worth, last year's final cuts were announced four days after the second pre-season game.

we've had a couple surprise cuts at non-conventional times this year (DPM and Horne)... might be that we'll see another one or two before the final cut-down deadline...

It will be interesting to see what they do along the defensive line. Might they rotate Reid and Laing at one of the defensive tackle positions?

Barker has said he expects Jones to (continue to) do a lot of rotation. But I'm guessing that's how it will look on paper at least.

Can we expect to see 3 veteran lineman in Wayne Smith, Andrew Jones & Marc Parenteau make the final roster?

Eight non-imports are listed among the starters which is one more than the minimum. No "only seven non-imports need apply" in Toronto.
