This move must have been made because Kuale was released. Also, another DE of yours was injured and place on the 9-game. Does Stewart have anything left in the tank?

I would have thought Popp would have a young prospect in the pipeline instead of reaching out to a 37 year old vet.

Another odd move along with the signings of a couple of aging vets in the off-season. Maybe Popp is missing Desjardins' ability to find young players.

How's this then? Former Heisman trophy winner Troy Smith signs 2 year deal with the als and he's 29. If mtl loses their next 2, you might be seeing Him sept. 3. Anwar is still on the practice roster.

Smith is an interesting signing. Reading his wikipedia page, he had some decent success in the NFL but seemed to have some bad luck with illness and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That tells me Jim doesn't think AC's gonna make it through the year.

IMO, I think that it may be more like he doesn't think that AC will return next year. Clearly, AC is not enjoying playing this season and once the fun goes, then it may be time to call it quits. Someone else mentioned this in another thread but Condredge Holloway has said that he knew it was time to retire when he started worrying, first and foremost, about being hit. Calvillo looks to be in that situation this season.

Could very well be, but there's also still plenty of season left. Players and teams have come back from bigger holes.

Yeah, it would be foolish and premature to write off the Als at this point as much as many would like to do so. I remember Montreal finishing both the '05 and '06 regular seasons poorly and looking like they were ready to have the knockout blow delivered to them but they still beat us both years in the East Final.

I may be way off base here, but I thik AC is done. It wouldn't surprise me if he came up with some sort of mysterious injury so that he doesn't have to finish the year. I think they may be the worst team in the league.

The Argos were in control of the 2005 EF until RJ Soward went into the crowd & returned the field with a bag of popcorn after scoring a 1st half TD....the 2nd half if I am not mistaken belonged to the Montreal O-line & RB Erik LaPointe....

I would not call Smith an aging player at age 29. It is harder to come up with a good QB prospect as opposed to a DL prospect. Very interesting signing that could help the Al's future.

He's got 269 yards left to reach 80,000. After that he might clutch at his thigh and 'writhe in pain' on the field.

I was also at that game, one of the most ill advised examples of showboating I have seen, you could see Montreal get fired up after that, the rest is history!

I said that they finished that season poorly. They were blown out by the Argos in a first place battle at the Big Owe and then lost to lowly Hamilton in their final game (granted they rested a number of starters). Conversely, the Argos seemed to be hitting their stride late that season and seemed to have more momentum going into the post-season than the Als had.
