I guess the Cory Greenwood watch can begin in ernest. We could use another quality non import linebacker.

Haven't heard anything lately on the status of Cory Greenwood. He is still listed on the Detroit Lions roster after spending the year on the IR. He will be coming into his 4th year in the NFL which is where, as I understand it, the salary goes up to a mandated amount from the minimum. That seems to be when NFL teams cut players that aren't in the top two depth chart at most positions, going with new younger players at backup depth positions. Detroit currently show 10 LB's on their roster. Depth chart shows Stanford (year 2), Whitehead (2) and Levy (5) as their starters, with Tulloch (8), Palmer (5) and McIntosh (8) as back ups. That leaves Lewis (2), Hepburn (1), Morgan (1) and Greenwood (4) as 3rd string going into TC. More FA's or a draft choice could still be added to that number. This would seem to be the year the Argos have a shot at obtaining Greenwood if he is ever going to come to the CFL. I can't see the Lions keeping a 4th year player on their roster that is not in the top two on their depth chart.

He has actually been in the NFL for four seasons, so he should already be vested in the NFL-NFLPA pension plan. As a fifth-year player, he would be eligible for a minimum salary of $730,000, the same as the minimum he would have been paid last season. He is not eligible to go on the practice roster. For his sake, I hope he has fully recovered from his injury. For our sake, I hope he is waived through the league and is willing to come to Toronto for no more than about one-fifth of what he was making last season.

There's been a number of Canadian players, who, after some time in the NFL, showed no interest in coming home to play in the CFL - even if they were still relatively young/healthy in football age/mileage. Could be those type guys made enough buck$ in their NFL time to retire, or else move on to "real" jobs or maybe don't have much respect for the CFL. Hopefully - Greenwood is not one of those type guys and would be happy/proud to show-up for the Argos or play in the CFL - IF he gets cut down there (he could still latch on with another team even if the new Detroit Lions braintrust doesn't think much of him).

At his age - he could still play pro ball for quite a few more seasons; be nice to see him as an Argo and maybe he could be a long-time dominant type MLB here - that's IF he is even close to that good of a player; which he might be, but we don't know ; outstanding CIS D player, some superb athletic testing #s at the CFL Combine, and yep made NFL rosters, but has mostly just played special teams there.
