    Riders rent Alex Hall for the rest of the season

    Hall will be a free agent after this season so this may just be a rental for Saskatchewan for the final few games of 2013. While this sort of thing works well in baseball and hockey, I am not convinced of its success in football. The Riders are, however, desperate to get to the Grey Cup at Taylor Field so it is likely worth the risk for them. The Bombers add a much-need Canadian offensive lineman as well as a draft pick as they embark on a huge rebuilding job.

    The Bombers win on this one. As Ravi says, they get a decent non-import O-lineman and a draft pick, and really lose nothing for their future. I don't know that Hall will be looking to go back to the NFL, as many assume. He's 28 now, had his best year in 2008 with the Browns ( 16 games/2 starts), but was only in 2 games for the Giants in 2010, and noone wanted him in 2011. Certainly the lure is there for Hall, both salary and pension ( he has 2 eligible years), and someone might give him a look, but at 29 it will be a real long shot.

    About a month ago I thought the Argos might try to go after Hall since we could use a pass-rushing end. I wonder if we made an offer.

    Would the Argos be able to easily integrate Hall into their complicated system at this point? Jones has his defensive ends drop off in coverage so Hall would have to pick up a lot in a short amount of time. I have been assuming that the Argos would not be in the Alex Hall sweepstakes for that reason.

    Can't see that being a problem for any talented player who wants to be here. The bigger problem might be to integrate a traded player under the salary cap.

    Worth noting that the trade deadline is Wednesday at 4 PM
