Australian Punter in the CFL ?

    http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=387802
Am I the only one not crazy about him being considered a non-import ? Think it's time the NI status is looked at by the league, unless you're born or grew up in our Great Country, you should not be considered a Non Import, just my opinion.

I have no problem with him being considered a non-import. It is quirks like these that help make the CFL so great.

This scenario is rare, and while I'm not prepared to say that it makes the CFL look bush league, I certainly don't agree with Ravi's position either. I think it goes against what the principle of what the "import/non-import" ratio rule is supposed to accomplish and that is (at least in my mind) requiring teams to appreciate that as a Canadian league an effort should be made to give Canadians a chance to succeed.

Not sure about the NI status but Aussie Rules players tryout for NFL teams every year. I believe the Eagles punter is an Aussie.

Probably agree, but I would also like to see anybody that plays at least 2 years in the CIS get NI status. There are a few American players playing CIS, and I would like to see them get a better chance to play in the CFL.
It's us vs the rest of the country

It is far less offensive, IMO, that this guy is considered a non-import than it was that Ben Cahoon was considered a non-import. Cahoon was born in Utah and spent most of his life in the U.S. but was considered a NI because he spent part of his childhood in Canada. He played high school and college football in the U.S. So, American-born and American-trained, yet he was named the league's "top Canadian" more than once. How is that justifiable? Noel Prefontaine, to be fair, is in exactly the same situation.
