Mike Hogan is as good a sports radio host as there is, and it's not just CFL. I find his opinions to be knowledgeable in all aspects of sports. He also has very good guests which make any show he is a part of very good.

Some people will find anything to complain about. They will not be satisfied until there is an All Argos, All the time station in the market. Unfortunately the apathy by most of the city towards them also dictates the amount of coverage they receive.

Ahhhh yes .... One of the benefits of covering CIS football weekly! ( sarcasm plus)

Here is Chris Zelkovich's final column of the 2014 CFL season: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/eh...1.html#more-id

I found his stat interesting about how TSN's reach is 20% less than that of an over-the-air network. I know that I can only dream but how I wish that the Grey Cup could be simulcast on CTV, CBC or even Global.

I am glad we have straightened that out. I am good with no Toronto No Names talk here.

First off, the Grey Cup is still among the most-watched events in this country. Add in the RDS audience and the game drew more than 4 million. According to TSN, one-third of the country watched at least some part of the game and the audience peaked at 5.1 million in the fourth quarter.

In addition, all of the aforementioned events were on conventional channels, except for the Grey Cup. The difference between specialty and conventional isn't what it used to be, but specialty channels like TSN still have less reach -- almost 20 per cent.

Here are the most-watched sports events on English-language television for the past weekend, according to Numeris overnight ratings:

    1. CFL Grey Cup, Calgary vs. Hamilton, Sunday, TSN: 3,849,000

    2. NHL, Sens-Bolts/Caps-Leafs/Sabres-Habs, Saturday, CBC-Rogers, 2,300,000

    3. CFL Grey Cup post-game, Sunday, TSN: 1,800,000

    4. NFL, Patriots at Packers, Sunday, CTV: 953,000

    5. NFL, Browns-Bills/Saints-Steelers/Chargers-Ravens, Sunday, CTV: 682,000

    6. NHL, Hawks-Kings/Flames-Coyotes, Sunday, CBC: 568,000

    7. NBA, Raptors at Mavericks, Friday, TSN: 440,000

    8. NHL, Canucks at Red Wings, Sunday, City: 438,000

    9. NFL, Dolphins at Jets, Monday, TSN: 415,000

    10. NHL, Canucks at Avalanche, Friday, Sportsnet Pacific: 281,000

    11. CIS Vanier Cup, McMaster vs. Montreal, Saturday, Sportsnet: 269,000

    12. Broncos at Chiefs, Sunday, TSN2: 235,000 (NBC viewers not measured).

    13. NBA, Raptors at Lakers, Sunday, Sportsnet: 227,000

14, Figure skating, NHK Trophy, Saturday, CBC: 211,000

15, Figure skating, NHK Trophy, Sunday, CBC: 206,000

    16. NHL, Blackhawks at Ducks, Friday, Sportsnet: 151,000

    17. Soccer, Hull City at Manchester United, Saturday, Sportsnet: 140,000

    18. Canadiens at Sabres, Friday, Sportsnet East: 129,000

    19. Soccer, Man City at Southampton, Sunday, TSN: 114,000

    19. Soccer, Everton at Tottenham, Sunday, TSN: 114,000

It looks like we're losing ground:

Grey Cup ratings reveal game was most-watched sports program of 2013:

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...ticle15596026/

And the Grey Cup is only available on Pay TV (TSN) the Super Bowl is on Free TV (CTV) so it has 20+% reach.

    Compared to:

There was nothing deflated about this year's Super Bowl ratings.

The usual amount of hype, the presence of glamour boy Tom Brady, a week of controversy, an exciting game and wild-and-crazy finish all combined to produce record ratings on both sides of the border.

Bell Media reported Monday that Sunday's game averaged 8.2 million viewers on CTV and another million watched on French-language RDS, according to Numeris overnight ratings. That exceeded the old record set three years ago by 13 per cent.

In the U.S., 114.4 million people watched the game on NBC, a 2.2 million increase over the record set last year.

But as thrilling as the last minute was, it wasn't what turned Canadians' cranks the most. The audience peaked during the half-time show, with an average of 12.2 million tuning in to see Katy Perry perform what has been compared to everything from an Olympics opening ceremony and a festival in Ancient Rome.

Overall, 19.3 million people -- or almost two in three Canadians -- watched some or all of the game.
While the game was the most-watched broadcast of any type in American history, it didn't come close to a Canadian record. That's held by the 2010 Olympic gold medal hockey final, which averaged 16.6 million viewers.

TSN has been great for the league, but the league made one mistake with the last TV deal.
They needed one game a week on CTV(or another over the air provider) and the Grey Cup. The ratings will be always be limited to the number of TSN subscribers.

I wasn't aware of this but it seemed like a prerequisite for BMO to be a soccer specific stadium if MLS allowed an expansion team to join. Nobody has mentioned it but I'm wondering if TFC fans are worried about losing the team.

judging from the TV ratings, no one would notice

Infomercials do better on TV, then the family and friend numbers by TFC.

This type of an annual survey has been reporting for as long as I can remember the CFL being way more popular then the No Funners.

These surveys are totally useless. I love the CFL more than any other sports league, period. Having said that...honestly, are we all blind to what people really prefer in Toronto? Or do you all just choose to ignore it. I have lied to myself for years about this, but the fact that you can't buy Argos swag without making a serious effort (usually on line), yet you can buy NFL stuff pretty well anywhere should tell us something. Have none of you been to a sports bar? Come on. I really hope, and believe the Argos specifically make a huge dent going forward, but if any of you believe the CFL is more popular in Southern Ontario than the NFL, I'd really like to meet your drug dealers.

Part of the swag is fashion. Its fashionable to wear NFL stuff. Plain and simple. Its "not cool" to wear an Argos jersey. Its also "not cool" to ask for an Argo game to be played at a bar. Other "cool" people might find out that you like something that's not "cool". But when no ones looking, you find yourself watching an Argo game. Not "cool". Just don't tell anyone. If you don't believe that is also true, let me meet YOUR drug dealer.

BTW, expect that "cool" factor to change shortly and quickly. I'm not saying it will be as cool as the NFL, but I think it will be some what cool again to be an Argo fan. Sheep can change direction awful quickly in this city.

Don't get me wrong, I hope you are right, and I agree with the "cool" factor theory. But closet fans will not do anything to help the business of the Toronto Argonauts. I play tons of touch football, and except for the older guys in the leagues, nobody talks CFL. If football players aren't talking it, what makes you so sure that the casual fan does?

No but it reflects in the good TV numbers here in the city and GTA.

For the Argos to gain further acceptance in Toronto there has to be visible signs that the team is supported. Unfortunately, TV doesn't reflect this because all the critics can try to say is that he majority of people watching the CFL are not from Toronto.
