Scoring ended up at 50.44 points per game in 2022 which was greater than a converted TD increase compared to 2021. This was a nice bounce-back season for the CFL.

Do you think adjusting the kickoff rule so that kickoffs take place from, say, the 25-yard line instead of the 35 would be of much use in increasing scoring? In theory, it should make for shorter fields on at least a few drives each game.
Moving kickoffs back to the 30 yard line and teams scrimmaging from their own 40 after the opposition scores a FG (other than during the final three minutes of a game) made a significant difference in boosting scoring this year IMO.

I also believe the movement of the hash marks helped. A lot more balls thrown to the boundary this year. Offences were using more of the field as a result.

I wasn't sure how much of a difference that made but I trust your judgment, AV. That change had its intended effect then.

A nice bounce back indeed. And that despite gun-slinging starters Rourke and Masoli missing a lot of games to injury.

Hopefully next season we'll see at least one QB throw for more than 5,000 yards and the scoring with continue to be above 50/game.

After 43 games so far this CFL season and despite so many QB injuries, points per game are at a respectable 47.37.

For the record, this is down from an average of 50.0 after 11 weeks last season (final season average was 50.4).

I have no statistics to back up this feeling but it has felt like there has been more variability in scoring this season than we have seen in a long time - i.e., we have had a couple of weeks where scoring has gone through the roof and other weeks that have been the complete opposite. The league also put up something yesterday - where they were touting increased TV ratings, attendance, and online engagement - that talked about this season having the most explosive, big plays since 2018.

I think the slow offensive start to the season is mainly due to the fact that training camps are so short now, and starters play so little in pre season.

CFL games averaged 50.75 points per game this season which is quite remarkable given all of the QB injuries and inexperienced QBs that we saw this season. This is a slight increase over last season and a large increase over the 2021 season.

CFL games are averaging about a TD more per game than NFL games which is a significant difference.
