Not much of a surprise. Any takers on who gives him a job on their coaching staff?

Reed might have to settle for a job as a position coach and work his way back up to coordinator. There are too many unknowns right now as to who will be head coaches where next season to guess where Reed might end up. Did Reed work in Hamilton as defensive coordinator when Marcel Desjardins was the GM in Hamilton? If so, that could work for or against him returning to the nation's capital. Along with Edmonton and Ottawa, I would expect Winnipeg and perhaps Montreal to have head coach openings for next season. I don't see such changes happening in Calgary, Regina, Vancouver, Toronto or Hamilton at this time.

My question is why has Ed Hervey not been dismissed? He gave Reed a contract extension in July for Petes sake.

General managers feel these days that they can't have a "lame duck" head coach which is one who is on the last year of his contract. There is no way that Reed or Tim Burke should have gotten extensions this year but they did because of this "lame duck" fear. In Winnipeg's case, I think that Burke still has another two years left on his deal. Reed obviously has at least one which might be a reason for him to lay low for at least a year before getting back into the game.

Someone will hire him as a ST or D coordinator. He was set up to fail with the Ray deal last year, and then throw in a rookie (and arrogant) GM after that, and he had little chance.

Those roster moves didn't help him out much but the way he didn't manage the clock and other things (can't remember off top of head) are all on him.

I'm betting Ottawa. I'm sure they'd love him to draw some Eskimo free agents who love playing for the man (guys like Hill, Thompson, Bowman or Munoz come to mind) to Ottawa.
but, I too don't think he'd be offered a DC position; something positional.

That coaching genius LaPo apparently getting considered by Ottawa; let him bring in Mavis Reed and you have the makings of a real solid good ole boy braintrust going for the new team; they could add the likes of Doug Berrry and Gary Crowton and maybe Bart Andrus and Dan Hawkins are available too.

If Lapolice is hired as head coach in Ottawa, then there is a real possibility that Reed would be his defensive coordinator as Reed filled that position for him in Winnipeg in 2010. I am not convinced that Desjardins will hire Lapolice as his head coach though.

Far as I know Doug Berry is very well respected as an assistant coach, and Dan Hawkins barely got started before the good ole boy braintrust fired him.

You're not going to get a CIS coach getting the job so just accept the fact OV. Greg Marshall would probably be the best bet but there is no way he's leaving Western, same goes for Maccocia. Bellefeuille is probably the only CDN being considered, Chapdelaine from BC would be interesting.

I'd call Ed Hervey "Quantum GM". It seems that, in his football world, anything can be both true and false at the same time.

Oh i get that; I just don't get why you expect me to just "accept the fact" ? Isn't it the Canadian Football League - but you want me to accept that's it run mostly by Americans and favors American players ? I still watch tons of CFL football and consider myself a pretty big fan - so that means just shut-up and not have any opinions or hope that the CFL could possibly change or impove, and that might just perhaps include a LOT more Canadian content?

You want me to just accept that Bart Andrus or Dan Hawkins or Joe Mack & Gary Crowton or Mr. Ed (the talking jackass) & Mavis Reed types get constantly handed the keys to running CFL teams, but veteran Canadian football people rarely do (unless they are trained seal CFL good ole boy types). Maccocia, Bell-fool, Chapdelaine or Greg Marshall are the only Canadian guys you can name who should/be considered for key CFL gigs? why - because they are the only ones you know?
