I remember Danny Barrett starting at receiver over DK Smith. In my mind, that was the day O'B jumped the shark as Argos coach. Also remember a blocked punt for a Darryl Sampson (I think) TD. I sat on the covered side, but still felt very sick, as the next week, I had tickets to my first ever live Grey Cup game in Ottawa. What a huge let down.

Is that really what happened? I'm going strictly from memory now, but didn't Barrett and Congemi share QB duties for a good part of the year while Renfroe was injured but Renfroe came back late in the season, if not just for that Eastern final? Again I'm going from most likely poor memory here, but I remember feeling optimistic about the game because Renfroe was back and he had put up some big numbers much earlier in the season. But you mentioning Barrett at receiver does bring back some foggy memory of that happening. Wow, why would O'B do that?

Gilbert Renfore played most games that year, and threw for over 4,000 yards. In the EF, he was the starter, and Congemi backed up. I remember DK had a rocky relationship with O'B. He was actually benched late in the '89 season as well as the playoff game that year for Brian Bedford. If O'B wasn't replaced in 1990, DK was gone.

We all felt optimistic about that game.

Was Renfroe injured leading up to that game though? Or some part late in the season? I just remember the Barrett/Congemi tandem for some period of that season, unless that was another year.

It was 1987 that you were thinking about. Renfroe started most of the games for the Argos in 1988.

So according to Copeland, (It’s) 27,600 for seating with the potential for some standing room on top of that. That’s a great size for us.

Thanks. Age + thousands of beers have made my memory weak. I used to be able to remember things like that.

I had just moved to Ottawa for university and was so excited to see the Argos in the Grey Cup there. I thought that it was as close to a sure thing as possible so, yeah, that '88 East Final is another one that still stings hard.

We saw on TV the other night that Danny Barrett is now the HC of Eastern Carolina. Lots of CFL talk during that NCAA broadcast.

I'll always remember Danny as the QB for Georgia Tech in the Notre Dame football movie 'Rudy'. In the movie, Rudy comes off the bench and sacks Danny Barrett!

I am just going by memory, but I thought the name of the QB in Rudy was Barratt?

I stand corrected! With a little research, this Danny Barrett played at University of Cincinnati. Collaros's university. That will change my take on Rudy after all these years too.

Statistically he wasn't quite as good in '91, but he was great in that year as well.

Thanks Angelo to be honest I just didn't enjoy it, even my 12 year old son (who is a Hamilton fan) didn't care for the atmosphere and behaviour of many in the crowd.
When I told him today we were going back to Argonaut games this year his smile told me everything I needed to know, hopefully will meet many of at the games.

So, according to Naylor, BMO Football conversion will most likely have 17 yard endzones. I'm really disappointed in hearing this and while there's still a very small chance that they go full 20's, I'm not holding my breath.

Small price to pay for a way better facility. The league used to have 25-yard end zones until some stadiums couldn't accommodate them; we all got over the reduction to 20 and the rounding off of corners in some of them. Seventeen yards is still a deep enough EZ to allow for bombs from the 10.
