Ottawa RedBlacks hire first head coach

The RedBlacks' first head coach is Rick Campbell who has been an assistant for the last 15 years in the CFL. He has certainly paid his dues and I think will turn out to be a good hire for Ottawa.

Interesting hire. Was he born in Canada when his dad was coaching in Edmonton? I look forward to Ottawa returning.

Interesting hire. Ottawa related, I was talking to my sis in law in Ottawa who is a high school teacher. She says the boys in her classes who like football are all talking CFL and RedBlacks. Seems the kids are really getting jacked up about having a new team. Good times in Bytown

I think he was born around 1971 or '72, and his Dad started coaching the Esks in 1977, so he is probably not a "non-import" coach.

Pretty solid choice, at least Campbell has paid his dues, if he is anything like his father he will excel in Ottawa.

This article says that Campbell was born in the U.S. but grew up in Edmonton: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/sports/...283/story.html

Campbell himself said at his opening press conference that he grew up around the CFL (not surprisingly).

Here is the rest of Campbell's coaching staff: http://www.ottawasun.com/2013/12/20/...coaching-staff

There is a strong Alberta influence on this staff.

I anticipated Kerry Joseph hanging up his cleats and joining Ottawa as the QB coach. He would do good in that role and has a solid background in our Nations Capital.
