I think he's a pretty good choice for an expansion team.

Bombers should get a trade done to get Glenn now that Burris has signed.

Makes sense as he'd rejoin Bellefeuille. No one seems to want to play at IGF stadium.

I can't imagine that Glenn would be happy about this. That is likely the only play that the Bombers have left if they want to upgrade at QB.

I juts don't understand this move. Sure Glenn has his issues. But by signing him, the RedBlacks effectively wasted their Calgary picks. Picking a QB that isn't likely to play, losing 2 spots on the first & second round NI depth of Calgary. Unless of course they actually got who they wanted in the NI spot.

This up side, is that Ottawa could hoard these QB's for a trade, especially if injuries start happening.

Kevin Glenn is scheduled to come up to Ottawa on the 17th for Family day weekend for a 67's game. I wonder if something happens before then.

Strange move. I am wondering what it is with Winnipeg that the can not land a Legit CFL starter. I heard that Burris was interested in the Peg first but they couldnt agree on terms. I like Glenn myself and hardly consider him a loser. The GC is elusive regardless of what some think and i think he is quality though and through. Bombers would be better off landing Glenn imo. The east is shaping up to be a blast this upcoming season. Far more interesting off season action than the west up this point with Tor/Ham/Ott.

Did Ottawa have Burris in their sights all along and still draft Glenn (Mulder's point about losing out on some good NI talent they coulda drafted from the Stamps otherwise by not taking Glenn is perhaps quite valid ?) ???

So Ottawa is happy to have both Burris and Glenn ?; and they are reportedly paying Blank 400 K range ? (though i tend to not believe much of what i read about CFL contract figures - some CFL fan forum posters seem to buy these reports as gospel). Burris as the starter with Glenn as the experienced back-up and a couple of young guys developing - was this their plan all along, and to have so much $M$ room tied-up in paying older QBs ???

We shall see how they do in free agency in a week or so's time. Could make a big splash i guess and land some real good ball players.

Not overly sold on Desjardins as a CFL deep thinker at this point, but maybe he will put together a solid team right out the gate. We shall see.

And the Bombers might be desperate for a QB, but i certainly wouldn't have paid an aging and often erratic Blank Burris anywhere close to top CFL QB dollars -at 39 years old = total joke / waste of time and money. Develop your own young guys (plus they could sign Drew Willy from the Riders) and spend some of that money on a few top CFL FAs instead.

Listening to 1050 this evening/afternoon, Burris was interviewed. He apparently had both offers on his plate the day after he was released. He stated he took some time to mull it over, as it will be his last contract. The two things that swung the choice to the Rouge et Noir, was the opportunity to be part of the new franchises legacy ie. their first QB. The second, and probably more important, was his family.not only his immediate family ... Wife and kids .... But also his brothers, aunts uncles etc. many of which live within 5 hrs of Ottawa.

Glenn certainly has certainly been moved around a lot. He was even an Argo for less than a day in 2004. While I never considered Glenn a great qb, I always felt he was underrated. He was certainly way better than the #1 qb of Saskatchewan at the time, Nealon Greene (another ex-Argo) and the Argo backups to Damon Allen (the immortal trio of Marcus Brady, Michael Bishop and Scott Krause).

Glenn had requested a trade after Riders' head coach Danny Barrett announced that Nealon Greene would remain the team's starting quarterback in 2004.Saskatchewan had four quarterbacks under contract and general manager Roy Shivers wanted to move one before training camp opened on May 22. With Greene entrenched as the starter and Glenn taken out of the mix, Henry Burris and Rocky Butler will battle for the number one backup job. ...
Not wanting to deal directly with a Western Division team, Shivers worked out a deal with Toronto that ended up with Glenn going to Winnipeg.
The Argos had no room for Glenn, with veteran Damon Allen, impressive youngster Marcus Brady, and rookie Scott Krause already on the roster. In addition, free agent Michael Bishop signed with Grand Rapids of the Arena League in February, but reportedly has the option to return to Toronto after the AFL season ends.

Looks like the Bombers have now sorted out their QB:

It is odd that the Bombers would give up a Canadian receiver when they could have just signed Willy as a free agent in a few days. They still have to sign him, I guess, but the gong show still seems to be alive and well in Winnipeg.

The Canadian receiver is a FA too, and likely at this point has stated his intention of not playing for Winnipeg.

That makes it better then and I would have to take back "the gong-show" comment. I see that Winnipeg has signed Willy too so this ends up being a good move.

Wonder what the asking price is for Glenn or what his salary is like. He would make a good backup in case Ricky goes down even though Angelo thinks he is a LOSER. Only thing is why would he want to get traded to become a backup. I'm just thinking out loud in a hypothetical manner so don't beat me up too bad.

Willy signed right away with the Bombers; Etienne is from Sasky and maybe would have went there as a FA anyways.

Bombers got some QB competition help they desperately needed; not sure Willy is the answer but he did look pretty decent when he got to play for the Riders last season. I wonder if the Bombers will still bring in another QB or two for TC competition = might be the smart thing to do; but at least with Hall, Goltz and Willy - all 3 have some CFL experience, and IMO a rebuilding team is better off to go with a new or young guy over an aging, mediocre like Kevin Glenn.

Have to think the Bombers like some of the new NI receivers they have signed as FAs (Feoli-Gudino, Brescacin, Renaud = all with arguably wayyy better college ball resumes than Etienne - who Joe Mack saw as a first round draft pick); they traded away Poblah and now Etienne, and they might lose Kohlert as a FA (or maybe get to re-sign him and make Desjardins in Ottawa look like an @$$-hat); but they still have Watson and Akeem Foster and could get a good one in the draft maybe; they would be smart/lucky to re-sign import FA receiver Matthews.

Etienne might pan out for the Riders - flashed some talent last year with some nice catches; and he might learn lots from vet receivers like Getzlaf and Bagg.

OV, word from Winnipeg is that the Bombers are likely to re-signing Kohlert.
