    Offseason outlook: The secondary

It is a cause for concern in my opinion.

    Other outlooks:

    Linebackers

    Defensive Line

I think Tim Burke has his work cut out for him. Khalif Mitchell and Shea Emry are the only sure things in the front seven and the secondary is going to be relatively inexperienced.

Can only hope the second year guys show major improvement this season, hopefully Burke doesn't subscribe to the "musical chairs" approach the the departed DC subscribed to last season.

It all starts up front with the defensive line. If they can get pressure on the opposing QBs - and Tim Burke's defences have always had a penchant for doing so - it will only make the linebackers and defensive backs look better.

You beat me to it Ravi. I expect Burke to employ a highly effective defensive scheme this season.

Yes, but it's not like our defensive line scares anyone (Mitchell aside) right now either.

It is difficult to judge our defensive line's ability to rush the passer based on them playing in a Chris Jones system last year where he often had them dropping into coverage. In Burke's system, their primary responsibility will be rushing the passer. Mitchell is obviously a good one but Cleyon Laing and Kiante Tripp showed promise last season. Marcus Thomas and Aaron Maybin may end up being impact players but they only played two or three games at the end of last season.

Tim Burke was interviewed about his philosophy yesterday: http://argonauts.ca/video/index/id/95005
Burke alludes to a linebacker who could be "re-signed" which is most likely Marcus Ball. Milanovich in a separate interview mentioned that either or both of Ball and Khalif Mitchell could be back.

great to see all of the major media outlet's microphone flags in front of each of the coach's pressers.

(Edit: seeing the buffet in the background may be a clue as to why... good for the Argos for knowing how to draw reporters in)

That's been a key to Blue Jays media success for many years.

Burke has his work cut out for him. He's not taking over either a "normal" style defense nor an overly aggressive one. Hopefully he can find the players to do that for this season. If not, his track record shows he'll for sure have it by season two.
