    Rempel signed by the Bears

    TSN report

We didn't protect him in the expansion draft and I wondered if Ottawa might grab him, but when that didn't happen I assumed we would re-sign him - and I didn't take his "NFL explorations" seriously. Oops! Hopefully we already have someone with long-snapping skills...

I don't think Chad made an errant snap in his Argos career. Long-snappers are underated. Bring back Randy Scorsenki.

According to Justin Dunk there are a couple of quality LS available in the upcoming draft. Remple could become the next JP Darche.

Grrr. This is a big loss. I hope someone like Tonye-Tonye or Hood has been learning how to snap.

At 32, he's a lot older than Darche was when he went down there. But Chad could certainly play for a few more years and earn some decent money.

Trestman would know and have respect for some CFL players - not that surprising - best of luck to Chad - big pay increase coming if he makes it.

CFL top LB draft prospect Casey Chin (SFU) apparently has some long-snapping ability = good double value pick perhpas - snapper and in the mix as a special teams gunner AND a good prospect at MLB (tackling machine for SFU in Div. II US college ball) - though the Argos do have Tonye-Tonye as a young NI MLB and could perhaps land Greenwood (i believe he has some snapper experience too).

A bit surprising considering his age. Good for him, best of luck. Assuming they waited this long with him remaining unsigned would make me think management had other plans with his role so I am not to worried about it. Seems like CFLers are signing down south more than any offseason I remember or maybe its just been a few clustered over the last month or 2 that makes me think so.

The Bears' incumbent long-snapper turns 39 next week, so Rempel is a comparative spring chicken.

A few Canadian long-snappers have made the NFL - Darche had a long career; Randy Chevrier got drafted there and played a bit ( that's 2 McGill guys); LP Ladouceur - Cowboys - has been one of the best in the NFL for years now. Rempel to join the club?

Trestman would know Rempel well and I am guessing is the primary reason why Chicago signed him. The Bears have former Ticat phenom Chris Williams under contract too and I suspect that we will be seeing much of him returning kicks at least for the Bears. I would prefer to see the Argos draft a long-snapper as opposed to trying to turn a current player who has never done it before into one. Having said that, Rempel had to re-invent himself as a long-snapper at one point and did just fine.

Like Paul, I am hoping that Hervé Tonye-Tonye either has some LS experience or can learn the job. HTT can contribute on special teams and is good enough to be a backup at LB, but doesn't seem destined to start. He's pretty strong with a low center of gravity (almost like an MLB, go figure), and could probably block effectively.

I'm more with Ravi - wanting a guy with long-snapping experience and skills; hoping an existing roster guy can just learn / pick-up LS skills is a recipe for disaster IMO; sign or draft an experienced long-snapper to fill this void.

Then there's Jorgen Hus .... was with the Regina Rams and hung around the NFL last year.... just signed with Seahawks. Maybe with these large rosters he'll bounce back to the CFL? Can always wish.

Interestin'- i recall reading Hus had drawn an NFL shot last year, but hadn't heard how he fared; connection with Jon Ryan reccomending him shows that value of connections for a pro shot.

There was a Canadian kid from a US college ball program at one of the recent CFL regional combines who seemed to be a strictly long-snapper type - I'll have to dig-up his name/bio; again though - read that Casey Chin - star MLB at SFU, and a top draft prospect this year - has some long-snapper experience - so, maybe a good draft pick for that skill plus a future starting MLB candidate or at least a quality back-up behind Emry - might have to displace one of Tonye-Tonye or Yurichuck on the roster, but he already sounds like as good a linebacker prospect, so if he is a good snapper too ... not sure I'd use the Argo first pick on him though and he is likely gone by the time they pick again at #15 ?

Maybe some trades can go down.... Rids listing of the linebackers has Chin as third in line .... 15 may not be out of line ......http://www.podcastgarden.com/episode...ebackers_15020

There should be no shortage of volunteers to acquire the Long Snapper skill set... just ask Chad Rempel about it.

I remember losing Darche heading to Seattle after 96 and evetually signing for something like $500 grand a year to long snap. Nice gig!

Having a quality long snapper is huge. We don't need the gongshow of teaching some guy on the fly. Snap way right, snap way left, snap into a blocker or the best snap in ten yards over the holder or punters head.

At least we have one LS on the roster but I say we still need more for some competition.

Guelph, Ontario native Jake Reinhart joins the Argonauts after attending 2013 training camp with the club as a long snapper. He had a successful five-year football career at the University of Guelph where he was a team captain. In 2011, he finished third in the CIS with 63 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 forced fumbles. That year, he was named Guelph’s Defensive Player of the Year and named an Academic All-Canadian. In his junior year, he was the recipient of the Gryphons’ 2010 Special Teams Award after finishing the season with 17 tackles and 3 returned kickoffs in 9 games.
    Argos Season Ticket Holder 2016-2021.
