Calgary Expected to Get 2019 Grey Cup Tomorrow
The Calgary Herald is reporting that the league will announce tomorrow that Calgary is getting the 2019 Grey Cup. After ten years, their due one.
The CFL has an announcement to make on Wednesday, and all signs point to the league confirming Calgary will host the 2019 Grey Cup.
At CFL Week in Winnipeg last month, Postmedia first reported Calgary was expected to host the league’s annual weeklong championship celebration.
At the time, CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie said there was nothing to confirm but he was hoping an announcement would be made within a couple of weeks.
Later that same day, Stamps president/GM John Hufnagel confirmed the Stamps were hoping to host the big game.
“We’re in the process of making a bid and hopefully the league will make a decision in the very near future,” Hufnagel said.
Wednesday’s announcement at the Shaw Court building will have Ambrosie and Hufnagel in attendance, as well as Calgary Tourism CEO Cindy Ady, Alberta Culture and Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda and Shaw Communications CEO Brad Shaw.
The last time Calgary hosted the Grey Cup was in 2009.

Although Calgary will be getting the 2019 Grey Cup, there are no substantial upgrades to McMahon Stadium expected because of this despite the $100 million in revenue it is expected to generate for the city. However, the provincial government is providing $1.5 million to Calgary for its duties as host of the Grey Cup.
