I could only take in a half of BC/EDM yesterday as I was bored out of my mind, but that running back for BC (#1) looked pretty good I thought.

I had the game in a window while doing other things but was surprised by how iffy Edmonton looked despite giving a lot of time to Reilly, Nichols, Stamps, Bowman, and Charles.

I know that Charles was playing in the fourth quarter but I am not sure about how much time Stamps or Bowman got. Reilly played the first quarter and Nichols the third and both played well IMO. A problem which plagued the Esks last season plagued them again last night - an inability to score when they had the chance. The kicker that they drafted, Medeiros, missed two field goals in the third quarter and only got one point out of that. Then, after stopping the Lions on third and short around midfield late in the fourth quarter, Pat White gave the ball right back to the Lions with an INT. The Esks should have long put the game away but they let the Lions hang around and finally B.C. took the game at the end after a late Edmonton turnover deep in the their own end.

Mike O'Shea has his work cut out for him in Winnipeg. I can't imagine that they won't be better this season than last - how can they not be? - but it is going to take at least a year before they can compete for a playoff spot IMO. I know that it was only preseason but I thought that tonight's final few minutes in Calgary showed the difference between a winning culture like what the Stamps have and a losing one like what the Bombers have. Winnipeg was leading 20-17 late in the game with the ball on the Calgary five yard line and a chance to put the game away. Max Hall threw an INT and Calgary came back with two late field goals from former McMaster kicker Tyler Crapigna to win the game. The Bombers, with this being their final preseason game, played their first and second team guys much more than Calgary did tonight but still couldn't come away with the win.

Quite true. I fell asleep with a few minutes to go, and was surprised to find that the blue bombers lost. It could also be that Hall and Marve don't know how to manage the clock...... Yikes!
The other ironic thought, ..... With so much special teams influence on the coaching side, one would think there would not have been such great gains on PR/KR for Calgary. Another Yikes!
Mind you, that may be O'Sheas ploy, to fool the league in pre-season ....... I agree a couple of years for improvement. They are in the West this year.
