Favourite Argonauts player?

I don't know if this has been done recently, but a couple of posts in another thread got me thinking about who are my favourite Argonauts players all-time.

After giving it some thought, I was a bit surprised to realize that my two favourites are both defensive players, and both linebackers!
I'm surprised only because I don't necessarily favour the defence.

Anyway, I like these guys because they had long, successful careers in double blue, and were rather quiet, unassuming guys, but I always felt they were stalwarts at their positions. Just hard workers on whom you could count for solid play.

Don Moen. Kevin Eiben.

I actually used to see Don Moen at the Gold's gym I went to at Yonge and Charles St. when I was at U of T.
And now I see Kevin Eiben (from a distance) at Varsity Blues games I attend where he is an assistant coach. I hope he is the next to have his name added to the "All-Time Argos" list.

Curious who others on this forum have as their favourites.
(Hopefully a select list. Choosing 15 players kind of dilutes the term "favourite" imo.)

Condredge Holloway is still my favourite, and I think the reason is that he was the QB that turned the fortunes of the team around during my younger years. As I kid, before Holloway, I saw Chuck Ealey (who IMO was a very good QB), Matthew Reed, Tony Adams and Mark Jackson all start prior to him. In '81, Holloway had the Argos playing good offensive football into week 5 (despite being winless losing the first 4 games in close results) when Terry Greer was hurt. It was a huge downward spiral after that. The next year with O'B taking over, and Joe Barnes at the helm, it was Holloway leading a comeback tie in week 1 at home against Calgary, then replacing an injured Barnes down 31-0 in Edmonton in week 2 and leading the Argos to 2 late TD drives (losing 31-12). He never looked back after that as he took over as the starter leading the team to a 9-5 finish the rest of the way and winning the Schenley MOP award.

The first Argos jersey I bought was a road Holloway Jersey at the CNE..(not including the Metcalfe jersey my mom bought me that got me started on my long road as an Argo fan)....my buddy bought a nice Dieter Brock jersey....I would have to go with Terry Greer....wish I had a nice road #10 retro jersey.

Here are my favourites in no particular order: Holloway (had his jersey), Terry Greer (had his jersey), Cedric Minter, Carl Brazley, ET, Chris Gains (wish he played longer), Reggie Pleasant, Ed Berry, Doug Flutie, DK Smith (had his jersey), O'Shea (had his jersey), Robert Drummond, Darryl Mitchel, and Gill the Thrill. Probably forgetting some of my favourites.... lots of good memories especially 1996 and 97. The best teams I have ever seen.

1971 Grey Cup team of course! Bill Symons & Jim Stillwagonwere Jim Corrigall were god-like! I can't think of a bigger memory in my youth! It was up there and more with the 1972 Summit for me.

I wish I could have been around for those years although there were a lot of dark ones too! My bleeding double blue began in 1982 and has never stopped. I know my uncle loves Corrigall. Just had a Corrigall jersey made for him.

I loved Holloway. At my young age back then I thought he could win every game himself. He was fantastic. Too bad his knees were so bad otherwise he may have lasted longer. I still think the greatest QB ever was Doug Flutie. Those 2 years were unreal. He had the complete package. I loved the running option play they ran with Robert Drummond.

He played a lot of great years in Edmonton, but the Argos actually traded him to B.C. as part of the huge deal to get Matt Dunnigan.

I completely forgot that the Argos had actually signed Major Harris back then too. He should have been a CFL star. Also, looks like Joe Kapp was a bit of an idiot back then too.

The 71 Argo GC loss rates up there with 1st game of the 72 Summitt hockey series as most devastating sport losses I have ever witnessed - 72 was just a total shocker; and 71 was such a pi$$-off - the Leon fumble when they could have won the game - and for trying to get rid of such a long GC drought

Stillwagon was an amazing player, unfortunately he was never the same after injuring his knee on the skills show All Pro Countdown.

I loved Corrigall too. Just a shame that he played on so many bad teams, and the year after he retired is when they became good.
