I wonder if the Argos gave any thought to bringing in Paris Jackson? Though he's now signed with Edm: http://www.tsn.ca/eskimos-sign-veter...ackson-1.94868
Trent Guy was released today. With all due respect to him, this is a good sign for the team. Our receiving corps is finally getting healthy enough that we don't need the emergency replacements any more. I'm curious to see whether we can keep Mo Mann around when he is healthy - he'd be a nice insurance policy for the stretch drive. I would guess Gill will be the next to go, but who knows how our staff feels about Adams and Fayson these days.
Well, now we know that they still like Fayson - he came off the IR and was put on the PR. As for the rest of the banged-up receivers, I'd guess:
- Gill: released
- Adams: released
- Chiles: active roster
- Watt: active roster
- Mann: IR for the rest of the year, as a reserve
Durie on 6 game IR. Everyone reporting he's likely out for the year. These guys just can't catch a break this year.
TSN is reporting that Shane Horton has been released after personally requesting it.
Sorry to hear that. He is a player and is good at PR to the public. He will find another job soon I would think.
Disturbing trend continues, young talented player wants out of the Argo organization and we get screw all in return.
I agree with Ravi and Gill Edmonton is a good bet but don't rule out Horton surfacing in the Hammer as well.
I am not sure I would agree that it is a disturbing trend as Horton just didn't seem to fit into the Argos' plans. Here are a couple of tweets from Matt Scianitti about this issue:
Horton was set to be a FA this offseason & #Argos tried to sign extension. But he didnt sound sure of his future when we spoke wks ago #CFL

His playing time and his role appear to reasons why Shane Horton's time ended w #Argos #CFL

Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force
Horton has seen less and less playing time and was basically beaten out by Jones, who appears to be a way better player and a potential all-star. I cannot remember a single big play Horton has made this season, and he was quite invisible over the second half of last season. So it's hardly a major loss.
But is it right for Horton to ask for a release? Much different than the Argos releasing him for football reasons. If you're demoted to a backup, then be the backup and support the team. This just has "quitter" written all over. Horton is a great guy so this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Argos Season Ticket Holder 2016-2021.
If he did ask for his release, he needed to go. No room for that attitude on a team. So the org did the right thing.
And again, other than a game or two near the end of 2012 and some games early last season, he has done virtually nothing to warrant being a starter, IMO.
I thought that this was another interesting tweet about Horton:And I'm hearing Horton has already been in contact w players on other teams - esp #Ticats -attempting to feel out other situations #CFL

I agree that if Horton wanted out that badly, there is no point keeping him around. The Ticats, btw, sure seem to like bringing in the Argos' cuts so I wouldn't be surprised to see him there if he doesn't end up in Edmonton.
