Mmmmm.... guess we'll be tied for first after this weekend. Crap!

Back to Back for Edmonton and Calgary .... wonder if Jones left some plays out to save for this week.

The Esks haven't been able to figure out Rich Stubler's defence in the two games that they have played and won't beat the Stamps until they do.

The Argo's will be lucky to win 3 more games this season, watch the Al's and Cats battle for 1st in the east (8 wins takes first place this year, 7 wins takes second)

If there is such a thing as a devastating win, the Lions may have experienced that tonight as Travis Lulay's career now appears to be in jeopardy after yet another injury to his fragile throwing shoulder. The injury occurred in the final minute of B.C.'s unimpressive 7-5 win over Ottawa. The weather may have been the only thing that prevented Ottawa from winning this game as they missed a potential game-winning FG late in the game when a storm blew into Ottawa and caused the holder to botch the snap.

The league is currently on pace for its lowest scoring season since 1979 and, fittingly, tonight's result was the lowest scoring game since 1979.

Another difficult game to watch tonight, that's for sure. Is it just me, or have the CFL and NFL done an about face in recent years in terms of offence?

NFL teams have been scoring more in recent years as they have relied more upon the passing game. Even with that, the CFL has continued to outscore that league up until last year. Scoring per game in the CFL last year was 52.40 points per game which has been a normal number over the last three decades or so. Scoring this year is barely over 45 points per game so, unless things pick up in the second half of the season, the NFL points per game total this year might actually be higher than the CFL's and I am guessing that hasn't happened in a long time, if ever. I think that the offences in the CFL will eventually recover by next year or the year after at the latest but it is odd to see defences dominating to the degree that they are right now. We have had 10-8, 10-7, and 7-5 games this season which are scores that have been unheard of in this league since the early 1980s. Tonight's 7-5 result is the lowest scoring game since 1979 when Calgary defeated Saskatchewan at Taylor Field 6-5. The Riders lost another game later that season by an 11-3 score in Montreal.

I vehemently disagree. Milt Stegall is right that they just simply don't have enough talent on that team. Their receiving corps isn't much better than the one the Argos fielded on Labour Day. Burris can still get the job done but he, like any QB, needs to be surrounded by talent which he doesn't currently have.

Sounds familiar doesn't it Ravi, always easiest to blame the QB.

I am not "Blaming" Burris because it's easiest. His throws have appeared inaccurate. He has also had the luxury of having a healthy receiving core all season. At age 39 I think age has caught up to him.

Tonight's game in Edmonton was the highest-scoring game of the season before a season-high crowd of just under 41k. The final score was 41-34 for the Stamps with Edmonton making a spirited comeback late in the fourth quarter that fell short.

A healthy receiving corps does not equal a competent receiving corps.

Ticats wet the bed in the second half, more classic CFL officiating, Hamilton challenge pass interference call, replay shows clear pulling of the Ticat jersey, reviewed and no call??
Hamilton probably thought they were home and cooled out at halftime, I have to admit I enjoy Austin's dumb ass tantrums on the sidelines, makes himself look stupid!!

I saw something you don't see too often in the Montreal Hamilton game....Andy Fantuz got called for offsides. Ti-Cats O-line was really exposed today, as were continued discipline problems as well as turnovers. Montreal really did the Argonauts a favour.

I was rooting for Montreal today as I thought that would be the better result for the Argos. With Montreal's win, the Argos remain in first place by virtue of their victory earlier in the season in Montreal.

Hamilton looked dominant in the first half but the second half was the complete opposite. Collaros seemed to have happy feet a lot today. The Ticats play Saskatchewan next while Montreal is in Edmonton. With it looking like Durant may miss substantial time for the Riders, Hamilton's chances against the Riders should improve although the Rider d-line against Hamilton's o-line still looks like a mismatch. The story in Edmonton next Friday night will be the return to Commonwealth of Jonathan Crompton.

I saw something that was not surprising. 3 stupid penalties called on Ejiro Kule as well as a poor tackling.

What a weird, and not terribly wonderful, CFL season.

The glass is certainly 1/2 empty.
Even if it is 1/2 full, it should be just about full, what with new stadia, a new team, TV money from TSN and ESPN, and labour peace.
However... the abysmal East. Injury after injury. Ludicrously poor officiating and review front and centre. Apart from a few gems, boring, mistake-laden games. Last but not least, the Toronto Argonauts organization yet again has severe problems.

Yeah..wonder if he'll be unemployed tomorrow. You can't take 3 major fouls in a game. 3 in a season is difficult to accept.

I thought the interception he through that allowed Montreal to cut the lead to 7 points really rattled him. I believe they had 6 consecutive 2 and outs after that pick. Really, that's 2 weeks in a row Hamilton has struggled offensively in the 2nd half. Argos shut them out last week in the 2nd half.

I guess it must be an issue with half time adjustments.

I hated the addition of allowing PI's to be challenged from the start. You need to keep some sort of human element to the game. I think a major reason that there have been so many chintzy calls is because the officials know they are being scrutinized a lot tighter these days, and many of them don't know what to let go, and what not to. I think receivers should have to fight through a little bit of holding as long as it's not a big time grab not allowing them to make a play on the ball.

It has been a tough season but at least the last three games have been more in line with the entertainment value that we have come to expect from this league. Hopefully that is a good omen for the rest of the season.
