    Team MOP's: Ricky & Zach

The team awards have been announced and for me the two key picks of Zach for the Cats and Ricky for the Argos stand out for obvious reasons.
Let's have a meaningful discussion here without a pi..ing match ensuing.
Who is more valuable to his team?
Will this have any baring what happens this week even though it's unlikely Ricky will play.
My vote for the current season and frankly for the future is with the much younger and greater upside Collaros.

I'm not overly thrilled with either of them. The mediocre east doesn't have a lot to choose from this year.

I never considered this as a third option!

I don't see how anyone can pick Zach over Ricky for This Season. There was a good write up in the Sun yesterday:

Ricky Ray, IMO, should be the MOP out of the East this year. He has played superbly, despite all that he has had to deal with on offence this year. I believe that his biggest competition will come from Duron Carter but I don't think that Carter's numbers are strong enough to win that battle (or at least they shouldn't be).

I'm hoping Carter wins this award. IMO, for him to win, he'll need about a 300yd receiving game and 5 TD's. That should be good for a win on Saturday, right? And think about how happy Rod Black would be.

LOL, I can go for that, AV. Black would be in ecstasy over that too.

If Carter has another huge game, he may actually walk away with the East nominee.
Everyone is expecting him to be in the NFL next year.

Collaros has 14 td passes and 8 picks. Those aren't MOP numbers. He will never be a Ricky Ray. I like the guy, less now as a Ticat but he'll never be in the Hall Of Fame.

Carter can piss off to the NFL and take Rod Black with him to hold his jock.

Not only after today's game, but Zach after his early season injury has lead the Cats and right about now are the favourites to go to the GC.

The major reason why both Hamilton and Montreal made the playoffs is because of their defence. The Argos' defence improved over the course of the season but wasn't quite at the level of the Ticats' and the Als'. Give Tim Burke another year as defensive coordinator (both Steinauer and Thorpe have had two years) and, with some of the good, young defenders the Argos have, I think that we will see a contending Toronto team in 2015. If Milanovich leaves though, the coaching staff will be in a state of flux and all bets are off.

I hope you are right with the contending part?
We need a major scheme adjustment to include a new offensive coordinator that will call his own plays avoiding the crap like east and west instead of north attacking mentality, like the dink and dunk check downs employed as a full strategy.
As for the Als and Cats, you are not giving enough credit to their QB's, who are gunslingers by their nature.
This for me is more than a coincidence when the schemes for those two teams is attacking down field, unlike ours this year which was passive and very vanilla at best.

Actually, at the risk of sounding like a giant suck, the true reason that the Als and Ticats are in the playoffs and the Argos not, is because the Argos drew the short end of the stick only getting to play the expansion Redblacks twice, while Montreal and Hamilton played them 3 times each. If the Argos played Ottawa 2 times, that would have likely meant another win (as you only get 1 first ever home game, so I doubt they would have lost another game to them), and Montreal and Hamilton would have played each other a 3rd time, meaning one of them would have lost an additional game.

Good point. Once we got somewhat healthier in the second half of the season, we were competitive with everyone. And if Durie was healthy, maybe we would have won at least one of those Montreal games.

I don't mind sounding like a giant suck ..... Is the schedule somewhat related to the previous years standings?

No. It's a rotational thing since you don't play all the teams in your division an equal amount of times. Naturally, the league saw fit to give the Argos 2 games against Ottawa in their inaugural season, and as they get better over the next 2 years, Hamilton and Montreal will play them twice each.

Regardless, does anyone think that we deserved to make the playoffs? We really weren't very good this year.

Hopefully some roster upgrades (including next year's #3 pick in the draft) and perhaps better luck with injuries will make a difference in 2015. I'm concerned that our top two receivers will be 33 and 34 years old, though; they are not going to get any more reliable than they are now. I'll be curious to see how many picks we spend on OL in the Spring, which will be a good indication of how much faith we have in Dhillon, Mitchell, and Sewell.

We weren't very good this year .... But neither were the Als or the Cats .... One game difference on any of these teams puts us in first .... I think it hurts because we were so close. Never know what happens once you reach the playoffs.

As pissed as I am about missing the playoffs this may be the kick in the ass this organization needs to smarten up and improve in all aspects, coaching and schemes must improve, in game adjustments, recruiting, marketing and the players themselves should be accountable as well.
And to Wobblers question NO we don't deserve to be in the playoffs!!
