    Ricky Ray's shoulder

Now that Ricky has under gone shoulder surgery with a recovery time of 6 months. I can see a scenario developing where he will have to be eased into live combat again next season. Kind of glad Trevor Harris got into that final season game now as there is no substitute for the real thing. I guess this explains in my mind how Ricky seemed to be losing some arm strength this past year. But He should still win the MOP award again this year IMO. We wish him a speedy and 100% recovery. Some times I think we take him for granted and just don't appreciate how good he is.

The article I read said he would be flying out later in the week. Probably already knows he will be the MOP. Eliminian will get the Top Defensive Player award.

Decimated receiving corps coupled with playing with this serious shoulder injury and still an MOP finalist speaks to how good this guy really is!!

No, No, No. He's washed up. At least if I were to believe a lot of what I read here the past few months, he is.

Or it speaks to how bad the quality of play was league-wide this year. Ricky deserves to win the award on the basis of having never won it before during his great career. But winning it based on his performance this year should be an embarrassment for the league, worse, even, than Kerry Joseph winning in 07.

I hope Ray has a great next season and the Argos win the Cup. Then - while he's still valuable, do what must be done sooner rather than too late - trade him for several younger talented players, and build the team around our good, current, backup QBs.

I like our backups but I will need to see a hell of a lot more from them before I'm convinced we can or should choose any of them over RR. Maybe a year from now I will feel differently.

The scenario of winning a Grey Cup with RR as the QB and then trading him strikes me as rather far-fetched -- however sensible it might be from a building standpoint, you run a serious risk of going backward on the field and alienating a big part of your fanbase to boot. Sask got away with it, but Joseph was not a very good QB when he won the GC, and Durant was probably seen as a more sure-thing prospect than Harris or Gale are.

I don't think trading a player for prospects works in the CFL. For starters, there isn't a huge trading market in the CFL. How often have we seen good players just get cut, and we all wonder, why cut him and not trade him? Secondly, most CFL teams improve, or stay on top, based on 2 things. Their ability to draft and keep Canadian talent, and their ability to recruit good FA American players that aren't on the NFL radar.
