    Fred Stamps Traded!

The Edmonton Eskimos have acquired international wide receiver Kenny Stafford from the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for international slotback Fred Stamps.

A two-year CFL veteran, Stafford recorded 26 catches for 267 yards and one touchdown in 13 games. The six-foot-three, 204-pound native of Columbus, OH, also recorded four carries for 26 yards. Stafford spent time with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons in 2012 and the Miami Dolphins in 2013.

Stamps originally signed as a free agent on Dec. 10, 2006. In eight seasons, he recorded 496 receptions for 7,932 yards and 49 touchdowns.

Wonder if this means no more SJ Green? Looks like the Ray to Stamps rumours are over although he is an upcoming free-agent but I would think he will sign with Montreal.

Kenny Stafford, btw, is NFL Hall-of-Famer Cris Carter's nephew. With Duron likely headed to the NFL next season, Rod Black may focus more on this family connection.

??? - Stamps is a proven, veteran productive CFL receiver; Stafford has shown maybe a bit of talent in his limited CFL playing time = unless Stamps is damaged goods or maybe this is just a salary dump ... more like Flanders and the Als made out like bandits here - and especially if they are about to lose Carter and maybe Green at receiver - they just picked-up a bona fide top notch CFL receiver to fill a big void.

Kenny Stafford.....is that the same Kenny Stafford that sat BEHIND Chad Johnson on the depth chart last season???? Too bad Crompton won't be able to find Fred with the ball anyway...

Stamps is 33 years old and Stafford will be turning 25 in April. I agree with Fumblitis, Edmonton fleeced Montreal on this trade. Stafford looked very dangerous to me early last season, until he got hurt. He's only going to get better, while Stamps may have 1 or 2 productive years ahead of him. Frankly, I think Edmonton would have released him anyway, so they win on their end no matter what Stamps ends up doing.

Agree, Stamps wasn't in the Eskies plans heading into next season, also Chris Jones isn't stupid, this deal could look really good for Edmonton in the next couple of years.

At 33? Along side Ocho Cinco at 37? And SJ Green taking a one way ticket out of town?

Don't forget that Duron Carter is probably out as well.

I don't think that Chad Johnson will be back and would not be any great loss anyway. The guy was down in Miami when the East Final was happening and not even paying full attention to that game judging by his Twitter feed. Heck, I think that Johnson would rather be playing video games than football at this point in his life.

Sorry, but id take a proven, vet, former league leading type receiver at 33 and hope he has a few years left, over a young guy who has shown little and might be in tough to make most CFL rosters; and especially if my team was about to lose one or two of its leading receivers (as the Als might with Green & Carter) = the Als just added a proven CFL receiver (again - unless he is damaged goods) where they have big need; and we shall see if Stafford ever has a CFL season with one half of the production of Stamps' 4th best or so CFL seasons.

Seems like the Als aren't going to re-sign SJ Green. Wonder how far negotiations got between the two. Did the Als make their best offer and have SJ decline, deciding to test the market first?

If that is the case then the trade makes sense from the Als perspective. Get a proven guy in ASAP. With the loss of Carter and SJ the Als couldn't afford to be in the same situation as the Redblacks this year.

Ottawa fans are probably hyped up about the trade though. Getting ready to watch their re-vamped offense come June.

From what I've read, SJ is gonna be in a different jersey this year.

Popp is still trying to negotiate with SJ. When all is said and done, I will be surprised if Green is in anything but an Alouettes uniform in 2015.

I agree with Fumbilitis about SJ leaving Montreal. Expect Green to reunite with Milanovich in Toronto where there is an elite qb to catch passes from. This signing will facilitate Jason Barnes going to Ottawa to be with OC Jason Maas.

If we lost both Chiles and Barnes for Green, I wouldn't mind that actually.

The Stamps/Stafford trade looks pretty reasonable to me. Stafford has more potential, obviously, but if it is fully realized he'll be out of the league in a couple of years. Stamps still has two ~800 yard seasons left in him, and that will help Montreal during their transition.

Stamps will be hungry this year ... not like last season, because of injury and being put on the backburner.
