    Steve Slaton retires




    That's three retirements affecting the Argonauts in the short-term: Bradwell, Robinson and now Slaton.

    Looks like the RB job is Curtis Steele's to lose.

    That's a blow.

    Is Coombs ready to fill in? Big shoes for a 2nd year player who is coming off of an injury. Would Kackert actually be able to come back?

    Slaton and Scott represent the 3rd and 4th retirements in several weeks for the Argos as they join Robinson and Bradwell on the retirement list. Perhaps Scott simply had 2nd thoughts about moving to the CFL. I cannot speak for what Slaton's motivations were.

    The Dollar or lack of more Dollars in a new contract along with the fact of Kackert coming back may have made Slaton wonder if it was worth it.

    The heightened awareness of chronic brain injuries may play a role here as well. NFLers probably have a hard time giving up their paycheques, but if I was a LB or RB in the CFL...

    Argos can now think of giving a real shot to Coombs & Campbell as tailbacks who get to play; either or both of those could platoon with Steele to maybe form a capable RB by committee attack; Kackert capable to go again would be huge too.

    Would love to see Campbell get a real shot and Coombs as well obviously.
    Though it seems that Coombs could be used more as a hybrid type player (slot, rb, etc).

    Would they consider bringing in someone like a Hugh Charles or Jonathan Williams (from Ottawa)? Both show as free agents still.

    Williams is recovering from a serious knee injury which is why Ottawa granted him Free Agency.
