That was the final home game of the '94 season. The Argos were on a roll heading into that game and had a chance at a 9-9 record if they had won their final two games including that one. That game is occasionally on ESPN Classics. IIRC, Obie made one or two boneheaded coaching decisions late in that game which gave Shreveport a chance to win that they never should have gotten.

I remember two buffoons running onto the field at the Shreveport game.

Sort of like that big ceremony the leafs had when they closed the gardens to go into the acc. I know they did something a few years back with having a top 50 Argo players of all time at one of there games I hope they try to do something like that again.
The Leafs had a parade from Maple Leaf Gardens to the ACC - the Zambonis, other equipment and memorabilia on the back of trucks, even the organ being played on a flatbed. That was cool. Maybe we ought to have a Skydome-to-BMO parade.

Isn't the 1993-1995 O'Billovich similar to the 2008 Cliff Fletcher? Both returned to their previous jobs at which they were successful, however both were unable to recapture the magic from their previous stints.

Didn't Bjorn Nittmo connect on a 50 yard FG as time expired to snatch victory from the Argos?

I'm sure it was something like that; even at my young age I remember it causing quite a ruckus amongst the crowd.

See Leo Cahill 1977-78. That stunt almost never works.

Does O'Billovich deserve any credit for the 93-94 improvement of 3-15 to 7-11? It seems modest, but the team did make the playoffs. The Argo offense that year wasn't actually that bad despite the QB's not being the greatest. I think it was the defense in 1994 that was atrocious. Of course, the '95 disaster ruined any work done the previous year though it did result in the team getting Flutie.

'93 was absolutely brutal. Dennis Meyer was so in over his head as an HC. They brought in Tracey Ham, and tried to make a run and shoot qb out of him. That was ridiculous. His strength was definitely not as a 3 step passer, but rather a play action bootleg type. They had no clue.

They also traded multiple valuable pieces to Edmonton in that deal while none of the players the Argos received lived up to their billing.

Exactly. They probably thought it would turn out the same way the Dunnigan trade 3 years earlier did.

Most likely. The Argos had capable replacements for Jerald Baylis and Willie Pless while they did not have replacements for Ed Berry and Don Wilson.

I'm looking at the review of the game in my 1995 Argo Official Guide. The Argos had a 24-16 lead going into the 4th quarter and a 24-19 lead with 3 minutes to go. Lucas scored a 74 yard punt return for Shreveport with 58 seconds left to go ahead by 2. Then Lammle kicked a 38 yard field goal with 7 seconds left for the Argos to go up by 1. Nittmo then kicked a 55 yard field goal on the last play of the game for the win. IIRC, the last play before the game winning field goal, the Shreveport ball carrier went down without any Argo player touching him and the whistle was blown immediately with time still on the clock.

Ham was awesome running the play action roll out style offence, looked completely lost in the Run and shoot style system.
Argos have made some stupid coaching hires over the years, Mike Farragalli, Dennis Meyer, and of course Bart "Dracula" Andrus.

Thanks for the recap argosfandave! It sure brings back my memory of that game now. That had to go down as one of the craziest finishes to an Argo game at skydome.alongside that game against Montreal a few years back where the Argos kicked it out of the end zone with Montreal catching the ball and punting it back to them the Argos lost that game as well. I think that was the same game Marc trestman disrespected Jim barker as coach of the Argos at the end of the game when they were supposed to shake hands.

The Bart Andrus era as short as it was made for a few good laughs. Wasn't Cleo Lemon on the injured list with a chipped tooth under his tenue?? haha

No, Lemon never played for Andrus. Lemon signed with the Argos for the 2010 season after Jim Barker replaced Andrus. Lemon injured a nerve in one of his teeth in the home opener against Winnipeg in 2011 and ended up missing most of that game as well as the next game in Edmonton IIRC.

ah, ok. ya, I remember the smoke and mirrors Argos of 2010 well but I always thought Lemon was a carry over from Andrus' tenure. Ya, that sounds like more than just a chip but I remember my hockey buddy laughing at me about being out with a tooth injury for obvious reasons.
