I think this is closer to the answer. Getting a veteran, doesn't even mean that Harris won't be #1. The consensus on this thread seems to be that Kilgore has already passed Gale as #2. However, he hasn't even thrown a pass in a CFL game - in other words, still a big question mark? Gale has thrown a grand total of 4 passes in regular season games. I've always been critical of the history of the Argos lack of development of QBs, but, for me, adding a veteran in these circumstances does not amount to abandonment of QB development by the Argos.
Well the first preseason game showed that Gale is still well ahead of Kilgore.
Your reasoning ( logic?) totally evades me. Gale got to play with and against "3rd stringers", and looked reasonably good. Presumably, in your thinking, if he played with and against 1st stringers, he would be awful. Very strange logic. I know from other posts of yours that you do not like Gale, could this be a factor in your logic.
...and just who will be this magical "veteran QB insurance policy" ?
One oar still in the water !
Gale made some big plays, but also missed some really open receivers. Overall he was pretty good, and really took advantage of the matchup Gurley had against not so good coverage. I can't believe that the Bombers would give him a 1 on 1 matchup on 2nd and almost 20 which resulted in a long TD. Before the snap I called the play from my seat.
Kilgore made a couple of poor decisions, but not bad for his first CFL snaps.
The important thing here is that Harris looked really good in his limited snaps.
It's us vs the rest of the country
We have a winner!

He had retired according to Calgary's site. Milanovich would know him as well as anyone, as he was his OC for a number of years in Montreal. The guy always has seemed to have a lot of promise, but never really got the chance that Harris is getting with Argos this year. Who's the odd man out here when Ray comes back. Gale? Maybe Barker can turn somebody into a draft pick down the road.
He has started and won a number of games in this league over the years so I would vehemently disagree with your appraisal. He isn't a star QB but if the Argos were looking for a dependable insurance policy who knows the system they made about as good of a choice as they could here.
Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force
You would vehemently disagree with both mine and Snow Rouge's opinion there; and I wouldn't expect you to disagree with basically anything the Argo braintrust does Ravi - they could have signed any former CFL QB with a bit of experience and I\d bet you'd be OK with it. ;o)
Which veteran QB would you have liked to see them bring in, OV? BTW, I would have been totally fine with them going with Harris, Gale and Kilgore and not bringing McPherson in but if they really felt that they needed a veteran, then McPherson was about as good of an option as there is.
Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force
IMO he's a much better option as veteran insurance than any of the other names bandied about (Brink, Troy Smith etc.). And all he is is insurance in case we lose Harris. I love how people rip a move like this without offering a more palatable alternative.
