There used to be restrictions on the use of the 9-game and more recently 6-game injured lists. To receive the cap space benefit, the team had to take the risk that the player would heal more quickly than expected but be unavailable until the full duration had elapsed. There were limited options to remove a player from the list early, forfeiting the cap benefit, but generally speaking these lists made sense only for players with legitimate long-term injuries.

Starting this year, as far as I know, there are no longer any restrictions on removing players early from the 6-game list. The obvious response is to put ALL injured players on the 6-game list, which is what we seem to be doing. Last week we had 13 guys on the 6-game list and nobody on the 1-game IR. This week we put Black on the 1-game, which is strong evidence that his injury is truly minor.

There's nothing really *wrong* with the new system, but it seems a bit odd. Am I missing a hidden disadvantage to 6-gaming players?
