I assume that was supposed to be Bruce *Campbell*. Anyway, if Owens can't go we're short a slotback.

So Willey is out 6-8 weeks. I thought former Argo Josh Portis looked pretty good in their last exibition game in June but was put on the injured list and has just vanished from the Bomber roster. Brohn doesn't look like he has what it takes. Marve will probably get his chance, but maybe this Davis kid will come off the PR and excel like Cato in Montreal.
But Portis should have been the guy ready to step in seeing he had all the intangibles needed. Size, speed, arm and three years in the League learning the game.

Portis was released following the first regular season game. They added Davis at the same time.

Spencer stays in for Owens, Coombs returns to his spot, Gabriel starts at safety and Rolle replaces Yurichuk. I like it. Hopefully Shaw can fill Elliott's shoes.

Shaw was catching punts in practice, but took no reps on offence. Looks like Stala will start.

Predicting another stressful game, these "ordinary" looking QB's tend to up their games against the Argonauts, hoping the Argos take a page out of the Ticats book and bury Winnipeg this week with a solid and more importantly disciplined game.

Barker continues to find the talent needed to fill the holes in the lineup created by injuries, which is starting to give the Argos the depth one finds in Calgary.

Good CFL teams stockpile talent like wise investors who save cash for a rainy day.

So when it rains, like it’s done both figuratively and literally for the Toronto Argonauts, they’ve got some insurance.

The Argos keep losing star receivers to injuries, but each time a Chad Owens, Andre Durie or Anthony Coombs goes down, the team reaches into its reserves to plug the dike.

The latest loss is Kevin Elliott, who is doubtful for the Blue Bombers game in Winnipeg on Friday.

The injury-racked Argos had a walkthrough on Monday at Downsview Park before a cloudburst sent the players scattering. ...
With Elliott doubtful due to a rib injury, Kenny Shaw is the next receiver in line. ...

Against the Riders, the Argos reached into their reserves to find a gem in Diontae Spencer, who in his first CFL start made five catches for a game-high 94 yards, including a 52-yard go-ahead touchdown that showcased his breakaway speed.

“Diontae having that much success didn’t surprise any of us,” quarterback Trevor Harrissaid Monday. “He flashed early in camp.”

Spencer, who signed with the Argos last December after he had been released by the NFL’s St. Louis Rams, was a football and track star at McNeese State. ...

Credit Argos general manager Jim Barker for mining the North American market for receivers as talented as Spencer, Elliott, Vidal Hazelton and Tori Gurley.

Jaime Elizondo has done a nice job coaching the receivers. If fungi is still around, I imagine that even he would agree.

Was it fungi or Area 51 who nicknamed Elizondo the tennis player?

Everything Area51 ever said was in a derogatory manner. He's now taken that act to Riderfans where he is equally worth ignoring.

Perhaps I shouldn't have allowed it to do so, but his posts really negatively influenced the way I think of his brother.

With Willy and Adams out there is no reason why we shouldn't steam roll to victory. My only question is can our o-line provide proper pass coverage to Harris because Bombers had way too many sacks their last game. Any chance of Waters playing?

Milanovich didn't address Waters in that injury update from the other day. Angelo speculates that he is ready to go, but may be kept out one more game for cap purposes. I'm not sure if the Blue Bombers defense is as bad as they are made out to be. They have played well in some games and played horribly in others. It will depend on what version shows up on Friday. I do know one thing though is that the Bombers OL is ripe for the picking.

They will be playing five days after a road game, have the least productive offense in the league, and will suddenly be without their top QB, top WR, and top RB. Anybody can beat anybody this year, but I like our chances.

In Kirk Penton's insider column this week, an insider said that you can't build a cohesive offensive line through free agency as the Bombers have tried to do. They certainly spent a fair bit of money in this area this past off-season but their o-line doesn't seem much better this year than last year so far.

I saw a stat that said the Blue Bombers have given up as many sacks in 7 games as they did last year. The Argos need to take advantage of this. The pass rush only really stepped it up in the last game and had struggled before that.

Frank Z's new article suggests that Kackert is "back", but that Josey will probably be the starter. Hopefully Kackert will indeed dress, so we can see what he's capable of.

That article also mentions that when Kackert showed up at mini-camp this Spring, he wasn't able to participate in two-a-day sessions. This is the first I've heard of that, and in retrospect I think it clearly explains Barker's comment that he "felt [Kackert] still had some stuff to work on".

According to TSN 1290 Winnipeg, Robert Marve has been taking first team reps at practice today.
