So supposedly they had a sellout yesterday( or was that Monday?) with the new pitcher .....question is .... Will he draw that again?
Jerry Howarth on the 590 AM radio broadcast announced post-game a crowd of over 27 000.
What makes me laugh is the numbers announced when Jerry Howarth on the Sportsnet 590 "The Fan" radio broadcasts and/or other media or team sources call a game a sellout. I don't know how many seats are for sale, and that may vary game-to-game, but the Rogers Centre seats about 53 000 for football and about 50 000 for baseball. One night it's a "sellout of 45 500", the next night it's a "sellout of 45 870", then it's a "sellout of 48 215", then it's a "sellout of 47 496". If they're going to try and deceive people about what a sellout really is, how can they fool people if they always announce a different number?
Looking at the Division championship, sometimes 90 won't do it. The Jays won the AL East in 1989 with an 89-73 record. I think that was the lowest record they had in any of their Division Championship years in the days of having 7 teams in one division with no wild card playoff spots
I remember the Minnesota Twins winning the West in 1987 with an 85-77 record and then beat the Detroit Tigers, who had comeback to beat the Jays after being 4 or 5 back to start the last week of the season to claim the AL East with about 97 or 98 wins. The Twins won the World Series against the Cardinals, another 95+ win team. In more recent times, I think a Wild Card team with 84 wins has won the World Series. It was either the Chicago White Sox or the Florida Marlins at around 2003 to 2005...Don't precisely remember or feel like checking now...lol
Sad to notice how some posters in this thread sound like TFC fans, complaining about inflated Blue Jay attendance figures...7,000 let's get real. They must have been watching batting practice. I don't like it when fans talk negatively about Argo home attendance, so as Argo fans I think we should be bigger than that. If you don't like Baseball or never got into it, that's fine, no need to post if you're not interested.
Let's also pretend that picking up David Price or Tulowitzki is not a big deal because it is. This is the best Blue Jays lineup since they won the World Series in 1993. I had an eye on this team all year and was telling anybody that would listen that Anthopoulous would be nuts to not go for improving this team to win this year, since Bautista was already 35 and all the bats are hot. If they kept all the young prospects, yah their pitching may get developed, but by that time Bautista and Encarnacion would probably not maintain their offensive numbers. I would've been really upset if the Jays did not look to improve their chances of winning this season. It would've sent the message that they weren't serious about fielding a winning team. Glad to see they made these moves and are serious about winning now. It will be nice to see some important MLB in this city in September...very exciting.
I think capacity was slightly under 50,000 for Baseball. The Blue Jays don't tarp off any 500 level seats like they Argos do for football or like the Oakland A's do for baseball, but they also don't sell the 500 level seats behind the outfield fence from section 504-509 on right field and from 539 to to 544 on the left field side before game day, unless it's to large groups and even then they put them in Section 510 or 538 if there's room, which there usually has been for many years. This is why sellouts have been listed as 44 or 45,000.
They have started to open these sections recently because there has been walk-up demand, especially on the weekends which has seen a steady 35-45,000 in recent years. Yesterday's crowd looked like 27k judging by the highlights of all those Homers which made assessing the crowd on TV possible. The Yankees are coming in next Friday for a weekend series and they are usually the best draw with a lot of Upper state New York fans coming over. When the Jays have not been contending, the Yankee fans would invade the place like visiting Saskatchewan fans at a CFL game, but it may not be as evident next week. I think there will be 45,000 + for all three games, if not totally sold out with even those obstructed outfield 500 level seats sold.
I hope the Jays all get the flu, a cold, mild food poisoning, nothing harmful, just enough for them to take a DUMP...otherwise the Argo's are screwed in october

I tried to buy tickets for the yankees game and the only one not sold out is the Friday night game which I can't make it too lol.
I think they have the talent to finish with 93-95 wins and have a real shot at the playoffs! Go Jays!
Currently the Blue Jays stand 2.0 games ahead of the New York Yankees for first place in the east. They are 21-4 in their last 25 games, a streak that I could not have realistically envisioned.
