    Sask being bad is bad for the CFL

    From an outsider's perspective, the Green Riders being bad (and this season, horribly bad) is bad for the league. They have the most rabid fan base, and when they are horrid, my take is this is being shown in TV numbers and possibly attendance at games where Riders are the visiting team (this is to be seen over the 2nd half of the year).

    Granted, somebody has to suck, but for the league's health and publicity as a whole, it would be better if the Riders were not the worst team in the league and remained competitive record-wise.

    There is no solution here or action to be taken, this is just an observation.

    Every team has a rabid fan base. Some are large and some are small. The dilemma the league has is how do we grow those fan bases.

    I don't think that you are incorrect, KCargosfan. The best case scenario for the CFL is when the Riders, Lions and Argos are all doing well as those three teams drive TV ratings more than anyone.

    Having any team sitting 0-9 is bad for the league no matter which team it is, would be particularly bad in a fragile market (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa).

    My point is that the league can't keep relying on a competitive Riders team to be it's bread and butter. This league needs to grow the fan bases in other CFL cities, so I don't think I'm ignoring your point I'm expressing that the league needs to address it.

    It's a small league. Any team performing that poorly is not going to be good for the league.

    Yes, you are correct. But if I were commissioner, I would be hoping Sask. wins at least 7 games every year and that the crap team rotates every year.

    And in all honesty, I would hope the crap team would be in the west more often than the east, as I would not like to see what would happen to attendance numbers in some east cities if there was an 0-9 team.

    Allowing Messam to run played a big part in the victory, He gained 73 yards on 17 carries plus 34 yards on receptions, compared to 6 yards on 3 carries in his last game.
