Riders trade Messam & pk to Stamps for Crapigna, pick and neg list player

Pretty good trade by the Rider IMO, they kick a top end kicking prospect, trade a 5th rounder pick for a 3rd rounder and a neg list player who has yet to be identified. Although I'm hoping that these moves today don't guarantee O'Day is the GM next year for the Riders, they need to do a full and proper search, Jim Popp might even be available.

I guess that they want to use an import at right tackle and need to take their import running back (sorry, can't remember his name at the moment) out of the lineup and replace him with a Canadian.

Cornish has missed a couple of games against the Argos in past seasons, but Calgary has always won those games.

A neck is a delicate thing though, so as much as Hufnagel claims it's for ratio reasons, you have to think that Cornish's injury was a significant factor.

When they say it has nothing to do with Jon's situation, it has everything to do with Jon's situation, especially with playoffs around the corner.

Good deal. We get younger and hopefully talented and offload a couple of guys that weren't gonna be back next year anyway.

Makes some sense for the Stumps to grab Messam if Cornish is iffy with injury problems; shows they probably don't have that much faith in back-up Matt Walter who IMO has always looked good when he has played. And anyways - we shall see if the Stumps really have much faith in a ground game down the stretch and in the play-offs to make good use of Messam or Cornish or whoever. In last year's GC, they basically abandoned the run game (Huff claiming Cornish was a good decoy), and after a decent first half of offence, they were putrid on O in the 2nd half, with no attempt to control the game with some run, and they almost blew the game to the Ticats. Their offence this year has been good to often mediocre IMO - Mitchell is decent at QB and they have some good receivers but they are nothing close to dominant let alone consistent on offence - I could see them losing to a tough Esks' pass defence if they do not mix in plenty of run game, which could be a strength, but again gob, er, CFL offensive minds, will always defer to mostly pass offence unless the ground game works early & often or maybe they go to it with a big lead.
