This is sidelining the thread. $800 probably was fair market value when they were renting there. How many years ago was that? 20 or more?

You are looking at about $5,000 to cast a life size bronze statue once you have the mold. The cost for an artist and technician to make the mold could be almost any amount, depending on who the artist is; a decent but unknown sculptor would probably charge at least $10,000 and then there's the cost for the base and installation. So the "ballpark figure" should be at least $20,000 for something like Ted's pigeon roost at the dome. I would say the same cost for a statue at a football/soccer stadium like BMO..

The Jack Layton statue at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal - IMHO, a fine tribute to a fine man - was paid for by the Ontario Federation of Labour, incidentally. And they raised $350,000 for it - the city donated the land, though. (That seems like a lot but I don't have much experience in statue shopping.)

That's enough to buy at least five life-size bronze statues - but then perhaps it was a very well-known and expensive artist.

Statue was by "master sculptor David Pellettier". I imagine the cost also included landscaping of the area too. It's nice.

Im sure he was a decent person, and i did overstep in what i called him. My apologies. I really don't mean to ever make things personal. Debate, and discussion are what make things go from terrible to good, then good to great. I just find that there is a double standard in the world today. (The Lib majority provided 39.5% of the popular vote, and is lauded, yet over 60% of Canadians voted against the Libs?, very much a double standard, as this same fact was an attack point against the previous govt. I guess that i just want things to be upfront and fair. I feel you can only be attacked if your right of center as i am).

Alot of things happening in my life, so im sorry if i go off. The Argonauts are a life long passion, and this forum is something i cherish. My Dad had successful surgery, however he was only given a few months to live due to an aggressive form of brain cancer. I was lucky to spend half of sept and half of oct with him, but i did need to return home to BC. It sucks to be that far away, and im hoping to at least have 1 more Christmas with him. All that said, im not saying sorry for my opinions, but i am saying sorry for my tone, and i never mean to make anything personal with anyone. Im double blue to the bone.

John Candy was my favourite comedian before he my favourite Argo owner. Love to see a statue of him outside BMO.

The vast majority of your statements are based in fact, perhaps your delivery was a little harsh for some (myself not included).
Your apology IMO speaks volumes about the type of person you are especially knowing what you are facing with your fathers situation.

I am in favor of the John Candy statue as long as it depicts him in his character of Barf from Spaceballs. He's a Mog, half-man, half-dog. He's his own best friend.

Look who's talking? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

As for the grammar correction, it's a messageboard. Get off your high horse, or is it that a pickle that you're sitting on.

    Yes, it's a message board.
    So?
Is that some excuse to deviate from proper English?

When do you "step up" your game and use correct spelling and grammar then?

I have no problem with people using proper English, yet should they be pompously correcting others on a messageboard. I found it condascending to say the least, as with the rest of that post.

Proper language and grammar should definitely be used in formal letters, professional correspondence and memorandums.
