I guess that is what bantering with players from another team is called nowadays.

I used to sit behind the visitors bench at CNE in '87 when I was 19, and (shockingly?) I was obnoxious as hell to some players, and we quite often had fun banter like that going back and forth. When he was a BC Lion, I used to really go at it with Jan Carinci. That was some pretty fun stuff.

I mean, are people not allowed to have fun? This is all a whole lot to do with nothing.
Perhaps I misunderstood the comment about being obnoxious to players during a game.
The discussion is about why a player may be seen as being hostile or "showboating" to the other team and/or its fans.
The comment above offered the explanation that the player may have had to put up with some fan being obnoxious to them during the game, and was reacting to it.

    Did I read this incorrectly?

You read it correctly, but admittedly I was just speculating. I have not only done it in the past (along time ago) but I also still see it. I was sitting behind the Argos bench on Aug 3 in Hamilton, and some fans were just meciless with their insults. How can you really blame a player for waving bye-bye to some fans after a road win if this happens during the game?

I really think that some are taking these actions way to personally.

Really my original point from the Thanksgiving game thread was that it would look really foolish for Elliot if the Als did in fact come back and score and then winning in OT. The Als fans behind the bench were all fine and even chanted "STALA" in good fun.

I have no problem with guys having fun, as long as they don't look stupid in the process. The Stampeders in the mid to late 2000s had great choreographed celebrations but at the same time you can't dismiss guys like Joffrey Reynolds who never celebrated and just gave the ball directly to the referee.

Except in the end, it was Reynolds that had the questionable off field issues.

My point being that I don't care too much what a guy does on the field, as long as it is not costing the team on the field.

    True enough.

And after having gone to several games in Hamilton over the past few years, including the last two Argo "home" games, I can understand why players would want to stick it to the fans.

I won't be going back to the Hammer for any more games btw. The atmosphere created by the fans ruins the game imo. I don't mean that as a visiting team's fan - I wouldn't enjoy it if I was a Tiger-cats fan either.

This from an anonymous CFL source written in the Sun.

Toronto was getting the crap kicked out them last week. I think it was 28-3 or something like that, and (Kevin) Elliott spins the ball after making a first down. That tells me he's a selfish player
    And

There's not much the Argos can do about all the bad behaviour. It's tough to fix in Week 17, but the bed has been made and all you can do is bench or release guys IF it's that bad

And I had an annonymous source tell me differently. In other words, might be true, might not be.

I felt that way for years, and boycotted IWS for the better part of a decade because of the abuse. But I haven't experienced anything really bad the past four times I saw the Argos play the Cats, last game at IWS and first three games at THF. There are idiots at every Argo-Ticat game, especially LDay, but I feel they are in a dwindling minority and not at all like the obnoxious idiots who used to populate the uncomfortable benches in Box G and H at IWS.
