Copland predicting only Argo STH will get Grey Cup tickets

Anyone else catch the comments on TSN during the Ottawa/ Cats game. TSN reporter ( Lawless)? Reported that new incoming Argo Prez ( Copeland) stated he believes only Argo season ticket holders will be able to purchase Grey Cup tickets for the 2016 season. According to Copeland they think the season ticket base is going to be that big and with on.y 38,000 To 40,000 seats available for Grey Cup, that the Argo season ticket holders will snap them all up before they can be released for general sale. That would mean the Argos are thinking they can get a season ticket base of between 16,000 and 20,000. Hope it works out that way

A very bold prediction. They really must have something going on with season ticket holders of all MLSE teams in order to predict something like that. I hope it happens. I, personally have my ST down payment in, but I will not be purchasing Grey Cup tickets, as I did not in 2012. I just can't justify paying $300-500 for a single sporting event..even the Grey Cup. I'm good with a party at my house instead.

Im with you, I paid for the 100th because it was my 1st GC and it was the 100th. I think Copeland is being an optimist which is great, but that is an unlikely prediction imo.

    Same here!

It was a bonus that the Argonauts were in that game AND that they won!

I'm not sure if I will pay that money again though. It was a lot of fun, but if the Argonauts aren't in it...

They are obviously targeting the Toronto sports fan that has no problem paying a thousand dollars to attend BJ playoffs and Leaf playoffs. The GC is still a bargain compared to that. I hope they can get as many out as possible and get them to become Argo fans sgain. They were there at the 100th but just did not come back because there was no marketing plan to keep them coming back.

I hope they do something for the 3000 or 5000 existing STH that have endured the last 3 seasons and beyond however.
    GO ARGOS!!!

All they can do is honor ST holders enough so that they renew, albeit, if neccessary. Rewarding them for past loyalty (to other owners), if they are not returning customers, does not help the bottom line whatsoever.

Hopefully the league has learned from the non sellouts for the 2013, 2014 and probably the 2015 Grey Cups. They need to go back to the more reasonable pricing that has traditionally been offered.

The current STHs need to get first crack at seat selection, ideally based on seniority (i.e. years as an STH). With something like 5,000 season's tickets it should be possible for even recent buyers to get seats they want. Then open it up to the rest of the world.

Agreed. I've heard different things about how they're going to do this. I've heard based on the seniority of how long you've had your season tickets and I've heard based on ticket level, existing golds first, then silver, then bronze then blue.

From what I've been told, a lot of season ticket deposits have been put down, north of 10,000 last I heard. So it may be possible, but at the same time I'm not sure as to how likely it actually is.

Honestly, whether It happens or not... all I hear Is doom and gloom predictions about the Argos and CFL In Toronto, even from CFL "friendly" media like Dave Naylor . So I like the Idea of someone being brash and bold and saying this Is how Its going to work out Instead of uncertainty that just feeds the media trolls.

    ???
Naylor has been pretty positive about the move to BMO and just wrote a piece on tsn.ca along with appearing on gameday with Wheeler and Cauz discussing how the stadium isn't the end all be all and that selling the Argos is about more than just selling the CFL game, it's the game day experience, brand exposure, on field excitement and tailgating etc. Also brought up how he's had conversations with Copeland and likes the fact that Copeland acknowledges it's not just about football and is excited about the opportunity to sell the Argonaut brand at BMO.

As a long standing STH, I'd like to be invited for a tour of the facility and choose my seats for the next 20 years.

Given that the team has no offices in BMO yet and construction is under way, it seems pretty unlikely they'll offer individual tours. But a one-time opportunity for existing STHs to see the facility and check out seat locations and viewing angles would sure be nice. I checked the place out at Pan Am rugby sevens event so I have a pretty good idea about where I want to sit, but there are many good options if we STHs get first crack at it.

I've been wondering this as of late myself, one would think that not only current season ticket holders, but anyone who wants to get seasons would have to option to get out to BMO within a one or two day window. I'm even good if it's during Winter, I would just need someone to run around the field, so I can get perspective on how far/small players will look lol.

The 2013 Grey Cup didn't sell out? How could that be with the Riders in the game in Regina?

Well, I do believe the Riders used to proclaim that no game is ever a sell out, and that they can always fit in 1 more.

From how I understand those comments if this was to come true there would be many and I mean a ton of Grey Cup regulars from all over Canada who'd be ROYALLY pissed at that. It's Canada's party not one cities.

Yeah, I also believe that the organizers would lose out on potential further revenue streams if tickets only sold to local fans. The whole week of events would not be the same.
