    Four East division All Stargos

Whitaker, Van Roten, Jones, and Laing named East division all-stars.

My initial reaction was that Van Roten might be a bit overrated here, but considering that he has played well despite being a first year guy lining up in three different positions, I think he has earned it.

Was shocked to see Van Roten on the list and Jefferson not being on it, especially considering Johnson and Kanneh were the East All Stars.

Agreed. Jovon Johnson was never that good, but he is a gambler and as such usually has high INT totals, which really fools the writers into thinking he is good.

I feel Holmes got robbed in both all-star balloting and MOP nominations. He has easily been our best o-lineman, IMO, better than VR who started strong but really tailed off after he started shifting between guard and tackle.

AJ Jefferson should be an Eastern All-Star. Supposedly he wasn't even on the ballot according to his twitter page.

You mean Jovon Johnson who won CFL most outstanding defensive player a few years back (and was the first D-backfielder ever to do so) - and deservedly so IMO ? "never that good" ???

Johnson may gamble some and he does get beat some (like ALL CFL D-backfielders do), but IMO he is a smart vet and probably the glue to that young RedBlacks D-backfield; I wish the Argos had a guy with his experience and vet savvy, instead of Barker thinking he could just plug in a bunch of raw CFL rookies (with some NFL roster experience that he loves so much).

    LOL

And Van Roten deserves some credit for playing tough as a rookie and for his versatility playing all 3 O-line positions; but he didn't even play guard all year; some much more deserving candidates there - like Nolan MacMillan of Ottawa, or Blake & Matte from the Als - who helped paved the way for Sutton winning the rushing title with a lot of tough inside running. And all 3 of those guys are better guards than Holmes IMO, who is a better guard than Van Roten.

CFL all-star teams continue to be a bit of a joke: like voting in 2 RBs when zero, zip, nadda CFL teams play 2 RB in their offence; or voting for linebackers as a generic position instead of individual MLB, Sam or Will positions. Do the "football reporters" even have a clue of what goes on in actual CFL play?

OV, what would be your East Division All-Star team this year?

OV, I don't think Van Roten deserved to be an all star, in fact I am on record as saying that Wayne Smith when healthy is still the Argos best o-lineman, but you obviously haven't paid too much attention to the Argos this year if you think Van Roten didn't play guard. Van Roten played a lot at guard..I would say more than either centre or tackle.

I would say the most frequent starting o-line for the Argos this season saw Campbell (LT), Homes (LG) Keeping (C), Van R (RG)and CVZ (RT)

Angelo: OV acknowledged that VR played all three OL positions. Have another look.

Going to have to agree with Angelo on Jovon Johnson, he isn't that great. Has he had a bounce back season this year ? Yes, but considering how terrible he's played since he won the MODP that's not saying a whole lot. I still recall the year he won MODP most Bombers fans and football "minds" didn't even think he was the best defensive player the Bombers had in the backfield (Hefney).

Ok, you are correct. I sometimes get confused with all the semicolons...I though it was the start of a new sentence.

    OV, sorry for the misunderstanding.
