    Argos make trade with Riders

King, more or less, became expendable with Bruce Campbell staking his claim at LT. Monroe is 5'11" and 270 pounds (interesting for a DT), but showed promise in 7 games with the Roughriders last year registering 17 tackles and 4 sacks. Euclid Cummings had a workout with the Vikings this week apparently so this may be in anticipation of his (or the free agent Laing's) departure.

I thought so as well. He flashed some attitude in addition to ability.

Wondering why King seemed to fall out of favor, or what-up - injured often?, discipline/loose cannon? Anybody? Cause, IMO, he was about the best OT I've seen in an Argo uni in a good number of years when he was starting in his rookie year here (i.e. better than Sir Vincent Rodgers and Campbell, and by quite a bit). Not that I am an expert or O-line play; but Jones was here to see him up close a few seasons back, and he just traded for him, and after cutting a whole bunch of what he thought was dead wood just after he arrived in Sasky.

King missed a significant amount of time this season, but I don't have anything that led me to believe that he had fallen out of favour with coaches or management.

Chris Jones picked up offensive tackle Tony Washington from Toronto and all he did was win a Grey Cup with Edmonton this past year. Monroe will be a pretty good replacement for Cummings if he leaves for NFL.

Monroe is an up and coming good interior lineman. The reason they sent him your way is because he's undersized for Jones' system. I'm not too sure about King though because from what I understand he can be a bit of a head case.

I may be in the minority here, but I would have preferred to keep King and trade Van Roten. Of course, Jones knows King from his time here, and Van Roten came after.

I liked King too, expected him to replace CVZ next season, but Barker must be bracing for both Laing and Cummings to leave via FA. I think Monroe was with the BC Lions for TC but was released.

I like this move in the sense that we get Monroe for someone who probably would see much playing time with us, but I agree with Angelo, I would have liked the move even better if Van Roten was the guy we traded.

Never noticed Munroe too much playing for Saskatchewan. Those short guys, if they have talent to go with their statue can be very difficult to block. Granville Liggins, Harold Hallman and Jim Stillwagon all come to mind when I think about short defensive tackles. Maybe he can become a good one who will stay for more than a year or two. Munroe has decent stats over 7 games. 4 sacks in 7 games would be about equal to 10 in 18 games. Pretty good for a DT. Hopefully it is a good trade for both teams and fills a need for the Riders and Argos.

Monroe was very noticeable last season, he's known for having a specific celebration.

I loved Monroe's celebration of rubbing his tummy after a sack. I hope we get to see that a few times next season when he suits up for the Argos. King has hardly played over the past two seasons and seemed to fall out of favour as a result.

I honestly thought King lost his job to injury and just couldn't replace Campbell once he returned.

That was my interpretation as well. Campbell stayed healthy and was playing well, so King couldn't get back in the lineup.

He has to lose some of that gut.

I like the signing of former Michigan Wolverine receiver Jeremy Gallon. He was great at Michigan but most likely too small by NFL standards.

There are a couple of interesting notes regarding King. Firstly, he is scheduled to be a free agent in February. Secondly, does anyone else remember when he left the Argos rather suddenly and mysteriously a few games into the 2014 season? I always thought it was strange as he was active on Twitter during that time and it appeared as though he was simply visiting his family at the time (which again would have made it strange that the Argos allowed him to leave the team). Anyway, someone on riderfans.com found this article which explains why King left the Argos at that time: http://www.postandcourier.com/articl...sexual-conduct
