RIP Gordie Howe - Mr. Hockey

Another legend in Sports passes away.

Lived a good life. Though it would have been nice if lived along enough to see the bridge named after him being built to be done.

RIP Mr. Hockey. There will never be another.

One of my most prized pieces of art, by the great caricaturist Anthony Jenkins. RIP, Mr. Hockey.

I give up on attachments. I usually can't open them, but this one opened fine for me.

Here's a link to my tweet with the pic (for those on Twitter):

    RIP Mr Hockey

I know most of us complain about athletes making mega-bucks, but the flip-side of that is Gordie's early career. He had total faith in the Red Wings to treat him fairly, and they took advantage of his trusting nature for years. Should have been the league's highest paid player, but for many years he wasn't even close.

Gordie defined class in athletes. Here is one of many examples of that. He co-owned the Vancouver Giants with Ron Toigo. In 2007, the Giants won the Memorial Cup. However, when Toigo went to his team's dressing room to celebrate the accomplishment, he couldn't find Howe there. Gordie instead was worried about the emotional reaction of the losing team of teenage Junior players, so he had went to their dressing room to console them, by telling them he knew how hard it was to lose a championship because he had done that too.

After the Giants won the 2007 Memorial Cup national championship on their Pacific Coliseum home ice, Toigo was in the dressing room and went looking for Howe and Quinn for a picture. He couldn’t find them.
He learned later that the pair had gone first to the runner-up Medicine Hat Tigers dressing room to give them words of encouragement after their defeat.
“Class,” Toigo said. “That was a word that defined them both. They were from a different time.
