    Anyone with Wind Mobile ?

I've been thinking of switching cell phone providers. Wind offers some great plans, but I've heard some good and bad things about their call and mobile internet signal strengths. So was just wondering, if any have some thoughts on the matter ?

My whole family has Wind and is happy with the price compared to other firms and have had no serious problems. However, Shaw has just bought Wind, so things could change.

Shaw buying Wind is one of the reasons behind me thinking of switching and I would rather do it now while the prices are still low.

I was a Wind sub for three years starting in late 2011. Couldn't wait to get out of my contract -- terrible network with gigantic coverage gaps. Often my phone would not work in my own home.

There's no substitute for real-world testing (with your own devices), but I'd start by looking at OpenSignal's coverage map for your area.

See this is where my concern lies. I've heard from a lot of people that they have almost zero signal within their own home or at work. My hope is that with Shaw becoming the new owners, more towers will be added and the signal strength grows to a more than acceptable level. As I mentioned before, I'm hoping to get in now while the prices are lower, so that when things do potentially improve I can stay on a type of grandfather type deal. If not, I hope that the charges don't fly through the roof. The big three's rates are unacceptable IMO and I'm currently with Virgin Mobile (Bell Network) for that reason.

Thanks for the map, very informative. Wind doesn't look too bad in my location.

Big stretches of dead air along the 401 (in both directions from Toronto) when I was a Wind sub. And no coverage at all out west but that will certainly change with Shaw.

I can't speak for how Wind is in Toronto, but I have had not had problems in Vancouver.

We also have a wind phone. We bought it after Shaw bought them, they have great plans and I hope old customers will be grandfathered.Shaw has big spending plans to build out the system more. I live in the vancouver area and go to the USA on occasion so you get a good deal there ,no roaming charges just 15 cents per minute when you use the phone. I realize their network doesnt provide free coverage but you always have coverage and pay the 15 cents a minute partner system charge. Not a big deal here as we are rarely out of their system coverage. We were with Virgin (Bell) before and without changing habits we are saving a lot.

I've been with Wind for a year. Works everywhere except my basement. No regrets for the price. My wife switched to Wind a couple months ago too. Fingers crossed Shaw doesn't jack the rates.

There was article written not too long ago about a Shaw exec discussing bringing up the prices to be more "competitive" - which ultimately lead to me not switching providers. I believe they'll allow subscribers to grandfather their current deal until the term is over, but nothing has been confirmed.

I love how their definition of competitive means "to collude with fellow service providers to charge the same rates and earn the same profits" when the government specifically made bandwidth available at lower prices so that a fourth service could compete at lower prices. Glad competitive still means something closer to the dictionary version on the gridiron.
